Are there any modern, living great generals on par great ones of old?
I realize war has changed in many ways, but have there been any military accomplishments done more recently that were mostly attributed to a single good leader?
Pic related is the first one that came to mind, but I'm not even sure if he counts.

For the deadliest war since WWII, that conflict is dangerously unappreciated.

He ousted three governments total, though. That's impressive, whatever the situation beforehand.

Supposedly he censors media sometimes?
Rwanda seems to be getting better under his rule, but who knows for how long.
Any good books or sources to learn about the Rwanda/Congo conflict?

If the narrative is correct, then he's emulating the late Lee Kuan Yew in his approach to governance and transition towards democracy.
Giving democracy to people who do not know is dangerous, lazy and incompetent. You need a semi-educated group of people for democracy to flourish. He understood it, like the Singapore dictator did. Therefore a benign dictatorship is needed, to promote education, economics reform, infrastructure reforms, etc. Stabilization of the country comes first then democracy.
If this means censorship regarding negative press, then he will do it. People of the country needs hope in their leader. If this transitions out into a model country, then future governments should promote such leadership, atleast with a benign one where people and the government are both enthusiastic about the genuine efforts.

The vibe I get about Kagame is that he's a brilliant tactician but a poor strategist.
Think like Patton vs Eisenhower.
For example, he did a brilliant job invading the Congo, but instead of engaging with the existing political opposition or finding a competent puppet, he picked some washed up loser, and ended up triggering the Second Congo War.
