"They were much more organized"

They were relatively green, not marching in combat formation, and the line of troops was up to 20km long and sparsely organized. Guerilla tactics basically took most of them out and by the time they did consolidate their forces, it was too late.

Look basic things up before you shitpost.
>>
>>3089378
I am not shitposting.
Don't compare the well oiled Roman war machine with a bunch of germanic tribes ok ?
>>
>>3089355
they were in absolutely shit terrain (narrow path between forested hills, a fucking swamp and lake) for formation battle, which forced them to march in MILES long column that couldn't defend itself from hit and run, they were under strength (almost quarter of the men were dead before the battle even began, slaughtered in germanic villages they were to winter in)
they were also funneled into a prepared killzone and outnumbered

How did Americans 'lose' in Vietnam? (Just to be clear we were winning and Cronkite is a commie lover)

>How the hell did they lose?
Augustus puts Varus in German of Germania. Varus is deceived Arminius, a highly Romanized Germanic tribal prince/chieftain's son whose tribe had allied with the Romans years earlier when he was a small child. Part of the deal with Arminius being sent to Rome to be Romanized and joining the Roman army while fighting in war in the Balkans around Pannonia. So he had a pretty damn good insight and experience with how the Roman army functioned as well as its tactical and strategic strengths and weaknesses.

He uses this knowledge coupled with the outside factor and variable of the Romans having to rotate more then 10 legions to the Balkans to take out Varus' 3 legions while leading them into a trap.

>Romans
>Doing well outside of flat open areas
People from Italy are called pastaniggers for a reason
>>
Rain. the strung out Romans, not in battle formation had trouble using their bows, and their shields were soggy and heavy
>>
>>3089355
They were ambushed by a Germanic traitor and weren't properly equipped
>>
The germs, they were in the tress homine

KRAUTS IN THE WIRE!!!

The Roman's weren't necessarily great generals, or great soldiers. Their biggest strength was the sheer number of soldiers they could deploy against any potential enemy, and the speed with which they could deploy them. You could beat the Romans in a battle, but never a war.
>>
For all the wanking over Teutoberg Forest, the Romans reinvade Germany like 3 years later and ravage the place.
>>
>>3089863
when large part of your army served for 20+ years all over the world it probably reflected on its performance somehow

>>3089865
the consequences were never the same mang

It's okay, the Germanics will get whats coming to them when Germanicus fucks their shit up a few years later.

>The Roman's weren't necessarily great generals, or great soldiers.
The Roman legionaries where some of the best heavy infantry in the world for a long time, and they showed this against numerically superior enemies time and time again. And some of the generals raised from the Roman world were some of the best the world has ever seen.
>>
>>3089355
If they were so well equipped and organized then why did they lose the battle?
>>
>>3091901
mad because someone criticized your favoritest army?

seriously Romaboos are worse than Katanafags
>>
>>3091920
He's wrong about the Romans though. The Augustan era Roman legionaries were undoubtedly the best heavy infantry in the world.
>>
>>3091898
You are such an ignorant little faggot it's appalling.
They were legions full of greenhorns, leaving supposedly friendly territory for winter and left behind about third of their force with different tribals, who went and slaughtered them in unison, then went to backstab the leaving rest.
They sent a messenger telling there is shit going down up north and that they need help .
Varus took his men and marched north, but the path was so narrow and muddy they had to stretch the column fucking 20 kilometers, absolutely defenseless against raids from the forest, led by a guy who was literally germnigger traitor educated in Rome, who knew Roman tactics and used that knowledge to his full ability.
This all went down during absolutely dogshit weather in which romans couldn't even use their bows and their shields soaked in water and became heavy as fuck. They ultimately walked into an elaborate trap with moats and walls to box them in and got cut down to pieces.

You can celebrate the superior teutonic gnome magic warrior, until you hear the afterstory, where barbarian bully not so tough anymore after getting raped by 8 legions 5 years later.
>>
>>3089355
Betrayal, plus horrible conditions mixed with a carefully planned and prepared ambush that allowed a numerically inferior foe to constantly achieve total local superiority against a foe who were not equipped, organized, or trained for the environment the fight took place in, with no ability to rally because of same terrain.

There's really no surviving that unless you are fighting utter incompetents-and the germans were not incompetent-or are rescued by an outside force.
>>
>>3089865
And that was the last time they crossed the Rhine. Tuetoberg for the Romans was almost as big as Cannae, the citizens collectively shit their pants at the prospect of an invasion by someone who was able to wipe out 3 legions.
