Redpill me abouts China's roll in WW2

They were the first to fight Japan (started in 1937), but because of their own internal divisions and technological backwardness they weren't very effective man-for-man.
>>
No.
>>
Japan was unable to swiftly take over the entire China and was dragged into a 8 years war, which they had to spend a lot of man power in containing their new gained territory, at the same time waging war against the USA. You can say China made the Pacific's easier for America.
>>
>>3072929
Yeah, the worth of china was mostly as a resource sink, as that which japan could extract from territories did not really match up the cost of holding them, and tying up manpower as IJA soldiers, when they could have been a lot more useful manning factories or as naval crewmen.

Japan had about 3 million men invested into the Chinese front.

Even thought the Chinese were terrible at combat, their numbers and the lack of supply lines made the Japanese invasion get bogged down.

Basically if it weren't for China, Japan could have done something useful like keep the Soviet forces in Siberia occupied while Germany took Moscow, but sadly the leaders in the IJA were too autistic about the Marco Polo incident and would never back down or say that this push into China was a wasted effort.
>>
>>3073087
Unlikely; even if Japan had an extra three million men and their equipment to throw around, you don't necessarily have the ability to transport at that locale due to railroad capacity and fuel shortages at any given point. In all likelihood you'd have them scatterseeded across pacific islands, if for no other reason than they could get those troops to pacific islands.

Not to mention that without Chinese raw materials (especially iron), they are going to run into shortages all over the place, and you can't get that without the war in China.

Yeah. China lost 14 million people during the war, but it had 500 million or so people back in 1937 so they had plenty to spare. There were times they would just give the soldiers bamboo spears (Japanese were likely to banzai charge you anyways like an autist instead of shooting you from a distance).

Though you have to remember, despite the Chinese have shit military industry, the Japanese had shitty weapons and tanks too compared to say Germany, USA, or Soviets.

And they would often get BTFO by the Chinese:

Look. They invaded China and still got BTFO by the Soviets and the Americans in 1945.

It's possible they could have ignored China as they were basically in Civil war mode.

Invading it was a bad idea when they should have focused on the Soviets or the Allies.

Keep in mind USA probably wouldn't have embargoed Japan if there was no Nanjing incident so they could have imported their steel and oil that way.

Even if they did, they could have just declared war on the Dutch and British but not go full retard and attack Pearl Harbor.

Then sent 1 million men into India with promise of liberation and put 2 million men on the Soviets and just kept them occupied until the Germans were able to take Moscow without the Siberian reinforcements.

Also the Japanese were retarded about occupation. They had no troops to garrison these millions of hostile people, but they didn't trust the locals enough to setup effective collaboration governments that could actually police themselves.

The communists sat on their ass in the hinterland doing nothing besides building up strength and stealthily infiltrating the rest of China while Japan pulverized the wealthy coastal regions held by the Kuomintang.

The problem was those resources went mostly to maintaining their position in China. If you're only breaking even, you're not turning a profit that can be invested elsewhere. Better to just bunker down in korea and the outskirts of manchuria.

Here's what's more badass: an islamic suicide bomber is promised rich rewards in the afterlife, if one honestly believes that, then suicide bombing ain't so bad.
What is it that the chinese suicide bomber believes will happen to him when he dies? It's simple: that he will have disabled a tank. Everything after that doesn't matter.
That's fucking badass.

>Invading it was a bad idea when they should have focused on the Soviets or the Allies.
Why? Their strategic goals weren't to fight with either the USSR or the Americans. They wanted to be hegemons over the western Pacific and China.

>Keep in mind USA probably wouldn't have embargoed Japan if there was no Nanjing incident so they could have imported their steel and oil that way.
They were importing most of their prewar iron from China https://books.google.com/books?id=lXyAAAAAQBAJ&pg=PA153&lpg=PA153&dq=Japanese+steel+imports+from+America+before+WW2&source=bl&ots=gdb4gCwr7l&sig=6ZYjfdYRo9XjmCSU07sEDaKJLg4&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwis17-n4YTVAhVC2T4KHVXsBhsQ6AEIXzAM#v=snippet&q=steel&f=false

Something that would be threatened if the civil war continued and trade broke down. FUrthermore, as the stuff in Europe intensified, it's likely that America is going to be shrinking exports of strategic materials to Japan in order to provide them to places like Britain and France, or to use them themselves.

>Even if they did, they could have just declared war on the Dutch and British but not go full retard and attack Pearl Harbor.
The odds of that not provoking America into war are very slim. Remember, it was the seizure of a French colony that provoked the oil embargo, and the relationship with Britain and the Netherlands is cozier than the U.S.-French relations.

>Then sent 1 million men into India with promise of liberation and put 2 million men on the Soviets and just kept them occupied until the Germans were able to take Moscow without the Siberian reinforcements.
You. Can't. Supply. That. Many. Troops. With. The. Infrastructure. On. Hand.

The Japanese sent 85,000 men to conquer Burma, and they were short of just about everything, and never did penetrate all the way north to seriously threaten India. You're going to have similar problems if you actually want to advance into Soviet siberia, especially with their penchant for scorched earth.
>>
>>3073200
Ehh, more like

>The Communists sat on their asses and only fought when attacked while the KMT pulled back to the mountains around Chengdu at the first sign of serious trouble after Nanking fell and let the Japanese occupy the lands of their vassal warlords, who presented a patchwork defense when they got attacked in their backyards.
>>
>>3073200
so the communists were smarter is what you're saying

Even if Siberian clay wasn't the goal of the Japanese, the Soviets were going to invade Manchuria eventually and most of the Japanese war industry (like synthetic oil factories) and resources were in that area.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Khalkhin_Gol

When the Soviets invaded the Japanese only had 700,000 troops and they only lasted 3 weeks. Unless the Japanese were going to outright copy German tanks and anti tank weapons they need a lot more troops than that to defeat the Soviets.

When they Soviets took over Manchuria, the Japanese troops in China went "Well... Shit..."

So if they actually helped the Germans instead of being a piss poor ally, then maybe they could have focused on China after the Soviets capitulated. Germany could have sent them steel and Caucasus oil after they repaired the Siberian railway.
