Let's assume that no established Government will try to take over, or subjugate your little community.

You'd need a population of about 600 minimum to prevent inbreeding, a way to reliably feed/shelter them, and a way to enforce your authority.

Most of the people you bring with you have already grown up in a culture or ethnicity and won't be able or willing to completely convert to a new one, and the same will be true of a lot of their kids, and even their grandkids. So what you need to do is make sure that the basic neccesities will shape your new society long after you are dead. You could make the island completely dependent on outside food shipments, delivered without any contact with outsiders, to create a sort of cargo cult religion for example.
