I'd like to know more about the US Army command of TRUST (Trieste United States Troops) that occupied the newly established Free City of Trieste post-WW2 — what was the daily life of an infantryman serving as a peacekeeping force within this UN free city?
Established in 1947 until 1954, it seems that the US (in joint-command with British BETFOR) 88th infantry division was tasked "to maintain order in the Free Territory of Trieste and to support the policies of the Allied Military Government until such time as the Governor is appointed by the United Nations and sees fit to dismiss the force."
Division HQ was even established at the luxurious Miramare Castle. And so, how did the soldiers and the leadership 'maintain order' throughout this seven year existence of the free city and surrounding area?
Really? Nobody biting?
Bump for interest, but I know next to nothing about the topic.
this was a pro-italian rally in 1952

>tfw Slovenian and therefore linked to Trieste by nationalist ideology
>tfw know nothing about the Free City period because hatred of the Italians and the allied forces' actions in 1945 clouds my perspective
