Seriously how the fuck was christianity able to prosper in a place like ancient rome? What made it so hip and cool that it was able to completely overrun traditional roman culture despite being a completely different and foreing to rome culturally?

Christians will tell you it prospered because God is real and it saved Rome from pagan degeneracy

Intelligent people well versed in ancient history will tell you that Christians are a bunch of lying crypto-jews akin to modern day SJWs

Really worked well for the Byzantines in 1453.

it wasn't foreign to roman culture at all. greco-roman catholics were still greco-romans ethnically and culturally, the language of the liturgy was translated from greek to latin, ethiopian, syriac ect. , the same with berber, syriac, persian, or indian catholics who maintained their ethnic identity after conversion. it flourished because of the strong belief of missionary bishops and priests that there is no salvation without Christ, baptism, and unity with the catholic church.
>>
It was a religion that accepted slaves and women on the same level as citizens and men.

It also required the conversion of the upper class, but that was most likely as it spread through the sinew of society, the lower ranking men, the slaves and the women.

>implying it wasn't translated from Syriac to Greek

Psshht.

No, really, psshht.

The Roman emperor sought something... anything that could more effectively bind the peoples of his empire closer together. Christianity and the control of it was meant to unite all peoples together and get around the whole Emperor as a god to appointed by god thing.

There were bigger problems of course but thats basically it

Christianity was a lot more personal and meaningful to individual worshipers than the Roman State religion, which often boiled down to contracts with various gods. Christianity offered a deeper sense of meaning and purpose, Also as >>3059980 it was heavily based on 'the meek shall inherit the Earth', and so was popular among people at the bottom of the social totem pole, like women and slaves. Women actually played a large part in the early church, if I remembered correctly.
>>
An emperor converted and it became the state religion.
>>
its central belief of a glorious afterlife for all believers, no matter how low they were in life resonated very deeply with the many slaves and underclasses of roman society

I'm not sure abourlt rome, but greece was ripe for christianity due to the instability and uncertainty of the hellenistic period. There was a lot of literature that was about the fickle fortunes of life (one minute you're with your gf, nekkminut you're a slave on a pirate ship). These reflected anxieties about the insecurity of life at the time.

The traditional gods were seen as either non existent, cruel, or uncaring because they didn't answer prayers. When generals conquered cities the people began to hail them as living gods because at least they could respond and benefit them. I think this shows the time was ripe for some new system of faith that was responsive to this new historical situation. Enter jesus a few decades later and there you go.

pretty much this. It hit all the right emotional feels. Who wouldnt want to believe that they could reunite with their loved ones in Paradise? There was nothing else like it at the time; thats how it spread like wildfire.

This, while a little edgy is pretty much the main reason, Christianity was a popular religion for the poor and slaves.

Nero overdid it with the public executions.

All Christians had to do to not be crucified and set on fire was renounce Jesus. A lot of people were impressed by their bravery in the face of such horrible deaths.

>ethnic identity
Not a thing in Ancient Rome.
