The Hungarian Soviet Republic or literally Republic of Councils in Hungary was a short-lived independent communist republic established in Hungary in the aftermath of World War I.
It was the successor of the first Hungarian People's Republic and lasted only from 21 March to 1 August 1919. The state was led by Béla Kun. It was the second socialist state in the world to be formed after the October Revolution in Russia brought the Bolsheviks to power. The Hungarian Republic of Councils had military conflicts with the Kingdom of Romania, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and the evolving Czechoslovakia. It ended on 1 August 1919 when Hungarians sent representatives to negotiate their surrender to the Romanian forces.

The State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs was a short-lived entity formed at the end of World War I by Slovenes, Croats and Serbs residing in what were the southernmost parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Although internationally unrecognized, this was the first incarnation of a Yugoslav state and had been founded on the Pan-Slavic ideology behind the incentive. A month after it was proclaimed, the State joined the Kingdom of Serbia to form the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.
The free Republic of Gersau 14433-1817 was a micro nation in Switzerland.
By sole virtue of spectacular natural defenses this village with between 500-1000 inhabitants managed to stay an independent country and was even approved by Napoleon.

One of the many curiosities about Gersau is the so called Fekkerchilbi, an annual gathering of the Jenisch people. Jenisch are gypsies, but of German origin. Once a year they met at Gersau, partied hard, the elders settled legal matters or arranged marriages.
Courland was a Latvian duchy that was nominally under Commonwealth vassalage but was basically completely autonomous. It was actually a minor colonial nation too.
