So, I'm thinking about using Ancestry.com to find out about my family tree, maybe even using their DNA test to see exactly where my family's from.
What're your experiences with Ancestry.com and other services like it? Which is the best?
Where are you from?

Ancestry for family tree, 23andMe for DNA.
My mom did one a few months ago. Her stats were:
39% Italy/Greece
13% Iberian Peninsula
13% Europe West
7% Native American
6% Ivory Coast/Ghana
5% Nigeria
3% Ireland
3% Senegal
2% Mali
2% Scandinavia
2% Europe East
2% Mali
2% Africa North
<1% Africa South/Central
<1% Benin/Togo
<1% Finland/Northwest Russia
Total:
73% European
20% African
7% Native American
Guess what country she was born in.

my sister did ancestry for dna and family tree
it wasn't half bad, but they have a percentage swing rate of 10%
I had a friend who did dna at 23 and me . I forget what the percentage spread was but they added Neanderthal dna into the mix along with some migration patterns
personally it was kind of a waste of time since my family takes blood seriously so we weren't surprised with the results

Either Puerto Rico or cuba

There's also geno 2.0 which shows your migration pattern.

I did this last year expecting to come up mostly Scottish and Irish with maybe an odd bit of English or welsh sprinkled in.
Turned out I was nearly 50 % Irish and 25% Scottish and 25% Iberian. Where the fuck did that come from? We traced everybody back to County Tyrone and Edinburgh ffs.

a person from a broken family wouldn't understand

Iberian probably from comparing the pre indo European ice age British DNA with native Iberian DNA. Or comparing Celtic DNA with spaniards who descend from Celts.

>did the test years ago
>mostly from the Britain and Ireland
>rest was a mixture of Europe (everything), and Central Asia (ol' Ghengis)
>about 2% West African (southern US, go figure), and ~1% Pacific Islander
>grandfather denies any African whatsoever, claims it's from the other side of my family (dad's side)
>aunt (his side) takes the test, comes back with 4% African
>he claims it's from her mother (my grandmother)
>we're still egging him on to take the test
>mfw we're going to do it after he kicks it, so we can put it on his tombstone: "Grandanon, loving father, faithful husband, (?)% African
