Specifically why was it created as a state comprised of multiple cultures and peoples instead of several smaller nations?
>>
>>3042355
So that it would be a stronger buffer state
>>
>>3042355
Because it was created by agents of the British intelligence and French generals specifically to function as an eastern bulwark against Germany, that was its entire purpose.
>>
>>3042361
Why was it kept around in the Cold War era and not broken up then?
>>
I thought it was a natural successor of the Czech Kingdom only fully independend. Slovakia came later.
>>
>>3042371
>Czech Kingdom
No such thing. It was Bohemian kingdom.
>>
>>3042366
Because independent Slovakia wanted nothing to do with the Anglos or the communists, so they had to re-annex it into Czechoslovakia.
>>
>>3042359
this
westerners wanted Germany to have a strong neighbor. And then they sold us out in 38' anyway. Fucking frog-eating faggots.
>>
>>3042381
wtf is this bullshit Jánošík

You guys voluntarily sided with Nazis during WWII and Košické protokoly were first signed in Slovakia. You were always at the wrong side of history, don't try playing the good guy now.
>>
>>3042366
A Soviet buffer against the West.
>>
>>3042389
Because we were always sympathetic to national socialist or a fascist government, not democracy or communism, both of those were forced on us.
>>
Also its kind of wrong to say we have "multiple cultures".

Bohemian, Moravian (now eastern Czech republic) and Slovak cultures were always really close, our languages are mutually intelligible. And i don't know if its because of the shared state, but there is a very strong sense of brotherhood between Czechs and Slovaks now, up to the point that it feels like we still share the same country.
>>
>>3042366
Western bulwark against Germany.
>>
>>3042389
>You guys voluntarily sided with Nazis
"Voluntarily" is a very tricky word.
In reality they didn't have much choice. France stabbed Czechoslovakia in the back, and Hitler said it very clearly that either independent Slovakia is created or it will be partitioned between Hungary and Poland.
I'm not trying to excuse what happened to jews, but saying that siding with Nazis was voluntary is retarded.
>>
>>3042394
How did we force democracy on you?
>>
>>3042403
Nonsense. Our most popular politicians like Hlinka were trying to ally with Hitler long before Czechoslovakia broke up.

>>3042389
>Košické protokoly
A document authored by Klement Gottwald.
>>
>>3042403
Slovaks hated "Pragocentrism" and wanted independence during the whole stormy period of 1930s. There was this one event where celebrations of first mention of Nitra principality turned into anti-Czech protests. And Hitler was their way out.
>>
>>3042410
>Gottwald
Obviously a German
>>
>>3042420
He was Czech. My point is trying to pin that shit on Slovaks just because that's where the negotiations took place is absurd.
>>
>>3042394
>Large insurgency against Nazis: check
>Insurgency against democratic or socialist regime: nope

Speak for yourself, Marian.
>>
>>3042423
I'm mostly just memeing, of course i know Gottwald was Czech.
But its also not true to say that Slovaks didn't want communism. You voted in '46 same as us
>>
>>3042410
>Nonsense. Our most popular politicians like Hlinka were trying to ally with Hitler long before Czechoslovakia broke up.
Maybe, but it was Tiso who finally had the responsibility and he wasn't all too happy about it. Tiso wasn't exactly a fan of Nazis and knew Slovakia would be just a puppet state with uncertain future.
In the end, he made probably the best decision and initiated a vote on the secession. That being said, deciding between subordination and destruction, there was no way of the vote going other way.

>>3042418
>wanted independence during the whole stormy period of 1930s
That's historic revisionism. Even Tiso himself admitted that the mainstream view was never independence but more autonomy for the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia.
>>
>>3042427
The "insurgency" in Slovakia wasn't even majority Slovak, most of those involved were Czechs, Jews, and various foreigners, even some French and Americans participated in it.

>insurgency against socialist regime: nope
There was the White Legion in the late 1940s and early 1950s but the communists repressed it fairly quickly because it was disorganized. Which is expected considering the leaders of Slovak government were imprisoned and/or executed, with few lucky ones managing to escape to Argentina or USA. There was nobody experienced enough to lead.

>>3042436
>you voted in '46
Yes, and DS won in Slovakia, not the communists.
>>
>>3042427
There were multiple insurgencies during 1st republic, but those weren't really against democracy, more like against Czechs and centralist government
>>
>>3042355
Because without Slovaks the German population of Bohemia and Moravia would have been over a third of the population of the "Czech" state and Masaryk and Benes weren't going to have that. So they conned Wilson and the Entente with a few Slovak-American immigrants as representatives of a Slovak nation that had no historical connection whatsoever to Bohemia. Then they treated Slovaks, Germans, Hungarians and Ruthenes like shit so everyone except the Czechs were perfectly happy when Hitler dismantled Czechoslovakia.

Still I guess better than the retards like Kramer who thought the Tsar was going to bring liberty and democracy to Slavdom, LOL.
>>
>>3042452
>The "insurgency" in Slovakia wasn't even majority Slovak, most of those involved were Czechs, Jews, and various foreigners, even some French and Americans participated in it.
Incorrect, it was majority Slovak by large margin. Do you have source telling otherwise?

>There was the White Legion in the late 1940s and early 1950s but the communists repressed it fairly quickly because it was disorganized.
It was not an isurgency
>>
>>3042436
Yes, but commies actually came second in Slovakia: https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8Ceskoslovensk%C3%A9_parlamentn%C3%AD_volby_1946

However, many hardline commies later were Slovak (Bilak and Husak come to mind).

The most damage to Slovakia was done by Havel releasing violent criminals into society

t. Slovak
>>
>>3042477
True panslavism in Western Slavic nations died out with the tsar, it was over when bolsheviks took power over Russia.

>>3042485
I already posted the statistics on /his/ several times in the past, not bothered to look for them now. Maybe I'll make a sourced infographic at some point.

>>3042497
Husak wasn't a hardliner, he was a moderate as far as communists go. He even got imprisoned by the Stslinist hardliners during the 1950s. Bilak was a Rusin, not a Slovak. He couldn't even speak Slovak properly.
>>
>>3042497
>The most damage to Slovakia was done by Havel releasing violent criminals into society
I can't badmouth Havel with a good conscience, but its true the whole shift from communism to capitalism was done EXTREMELY bad.

Honestly, i think privatization fucked us up equally as commies
>>
>>3042525
>I already posted the statistics on /his/ several times in the past, not bothered to look for them now. Maybe I'll make a sourced infographic at some point.
Just point us to the source to see whatever it is reliable or not. Mainstream consensus definitly says otherwise.
>>
>>3042525
True Panslavism died with the Polish uprising in 1863, when people realized Russians don't want all Slavs to be equal, they want to rule them all
>>
>>3042525
>Rusyn
That's like saying Gottwald was not Czech but Moravian.
>>3042526
agree
>>
>>3042554
Rusins are basically Ukrainians who live in Slovakia. Their native language is Eastern Slavic.
>>
>>3042562
This is true, but Bilak spoke Slovak (with a typical Rusyn accent).
And still there were other Slovak hardline commies like Viliam Salgovic.
>>
This is actually a half decent conversation. Who the fuck are you people and what have you done with /his/?!?!?!
>>
>>3042377
Literally the same word in Czech
>>
>>3042377
Literally the only good thing about "Czechia" was that it allowed us to call this country by a single word. Bohemia is not suitable because there's also Moravia.
