Assuming you could only have either language in your life, which would you go for? Latin or Attic Greek?
Neither. Theyre fucking useless. Id rather learn something practical that I can use to communicate with people. What a stupid question. Next.
Latin.
Also Koine Greek.

I did a bit of both in school but if I could choose one to be magically fluent in, it'd be Latin. That way I could join the priesthood pretty easily and have a pretty comfy setup

Literally plebian
I already know Attic, and by that can mostly read Homeric Greek too.

What do you feel is lost when reading Homer in translation?
>>3041750
Well, Homer's elisions are epic when pronounced out loud.
>"ἔνθ᾽ αὖτ᾽ ἄλλ᾽ ἐνόησε θεά, γλαυkῶπις Ἀθήνη:
εἴδωλον ποίησε"
>"Then the goddess, bright-eyed Athene, had an idea. She created a phantom,"
Here, "ἔνθ᾽ αὖτ᾽ ἄλλ᾽" is just translated as "then", which is just lazy. A more poetic translation would be something like "Such that in this moment".

You already know English though to what degree remains to be seen.

Not to derail but is it true that most homer characters are described as blonde and such? I feel like nordfags are misunderstanding translations to further their agenda.

No it's not true. Certain characters are described as "golden-haired" like Paris if I'm not mistaken, but the warriors like Achilles are not.
Ironically, wewuznordfags think that all the nordic gods were described as blonde too, which is also wrong. Several of them are described as red-haired and red-bearded, like Thor.
