What can /his/ tell me about America and its role in ww1

They did fuck all until 1917, when they started to arrive in Europe in large numbers. They were brave but for the most part fought like it was still 1914. They're arrival was decisive not because of their actual battlefield presence, but because it allowed the Allies to gain the numbers advantage, pressuring Germany to make a big, quick, successful offensive or face losing the war. Their late entry meant their losses were minimal (53,000 killed compared to 1,150,000 French, 1,800,000 Germans and 744,000 British), and US veterans emerged from the war less cynical and disillusioned than their European counterparts.

America basically waited until the war was 90% finished, and then swooped in to claim credit for winning the war. They were opportunistic shits. If Germany had been winning the war in 1917, America probably would have joined the Central Powers just to be on the winning team.
