Are the years 1960-1966 even all that different from the 50s? You might have had the Beatles and British invasion but the main things most people associate with the decade: hippie culture, psychedelia, Summer of Love, mass protests, etc. didn't become fully prominent until 1967.
Also, both rock and roll and r&b were still instrumentally similar to what they were in the late 50s; it really wasn't until 1967 that music became comfortably distanced from its vintage influences
