Let's have a thread about History of Ukraine
/thread
I heard about Kievan Rus and Kiev is Ukraine now, does it mean that Ukraine is real Rus and Russia is not?
>Good times until 500 AD with based Scythians and based Turks roaming freely
>Slavs escape from their prison swamp and flood the land
history of what????
>>3025309
slavs and Scythians are the same people.
Were The Cossacks a 4chan of their time?
>>3025391
>Cossacks
>Ukrainians
Two different groups. Cossacks were Cossacks, they saw themselves as distinct from Russians, and especially "Ukrainians" which in that time just meant peasant. To call a Cossack Ukrainian would be seen as an insult.

yes
>>3025246
>Fertile soil
>strategic position between Asia and Europe
>important trade routes
>Poles, Russians, Mongols, Ottomans and others keep fighting over it
Ukraine means "borderland"
1991:
>Hey, lets make a country there
>What could possibly go wrong
>>3025303
Kievan rus had a good part of todays northern Ukraine, including Kiev.
Later most of "Ukraine" was part of the Russian Empire and the sowjet union.

Herodotus on the Scythians inhabiting this area in Roman times:
>After the burial, those engaged in it have to purify themselves, which they do in the following way. First they well soap and wash their heads; then, in order to cleanse their bodies, they act as follows: they make a booth by fixing in the ground three sticks inclined towards one another, and stretching around them woollen felts, which they arrange so as to fit as close as possible: inside the booth a dish is placed upon the ground, into which they put a number of red-hot stones, and then add some hemp-seed.
>The Scythians, as I said, take some of this hemp-seed, and, creeping under the felt coverings, throw it upon the red-hot stones; immediately it smokes, and gives out such a vapour as no Grecian vapour-bath can exceed; the Scyths, delighted, shout for joy, and this vapour serves them instead of a water-bath; for they never by any chance wash their bodies with water.

Scythians were Iranics...
>>3025598
And Slavs are their descendants.

>ukraine
>history
>>3025399
>don't own a calendar
what did they mean by this?
>>3025422
They call it Rostov now.
>>3025598
>Scythians were Iranics...
Not in Europe. You need to differentiate Asian Iranic Scythians from European Scythians/Sarmatians who nowadays are known as Slavs.
>>3025695
Nonsense. Slavs have nothing to do with Iranic Scythians. There's no single drop of Iranic DNA in Slavs, which means they cannot be their descendants. If anything, it's Indo-Iranics who came from Easten Europe and have Northern Eruopean genetic component in them.

wild steppes inhabited by cossacks were place where serfs, criminals and other fugitives from usually poland-lithuania and sometimes russia would flee to, they were very keen on provoking polish-ottoman wars to the point where they were fine with open rebellion in case of lasting peace between poland-ottomans since they proffered war to being a serf, they were responsible for shitload of tensions around the region (same with crimeans) and eventually tried to create alliance with russian tsar in order to oppose poles but they literally couldn't talk to russian envoys because their language was so different
their shithole was eventually abolished by catherine the great and their population was either integrated into russian army or deported to populate siberia

Surely you mean butthurt Russians with funny accents.
