>WAHHH MUH PAY
what a selfish glory-seeking cunt. He didnt want to gain independence for independence's sake, but to be the guy everyone remembers washington as. He did it all for his own legacy, cunt had no loyalty to anything but his desires.

As opposed to the rest of the rebels who were fighting for freedom and liberty and totally not for protecting their land investments after the king told the colonists to stop expanding west and to leave the Indians alone?

most of em were peasants and commoners fighting for suprisingly idealistic reasons, which were spurred by the resentment anyone would feel when theyre suddenly under martial law after centuries of virtually autonomous rule. The rich, educated ruling class always has their reasons in a revolution apart from being the intellectual backbone that gives the movement legitimacy, but most of the people that actually fought were caught up in the fires of liberal revolution that seemed to be spreading across the globe, this coupled with the fact that americans were the most literate population in the world per capita at the time, and you have a highly idealistic population similar to the french revolution.

>End up in personal debt to Congress after he personally footed some of the bill for funding the war
>Consistenly have his achievements taken credit for by others less deserving
>Passed over for promotion because too many generals from his state, regardless of his ability
>the fucking hero of Saratoga
In the end he lived long enough to see himself become the villain. What's upsetting is how avoidable it was. Literally all that was needed was recognition for his service from Congress.

they didnt have any money to spare the guy, and nobody else was getting paid either. They were massively in debt because, you know a war. Everyone else sucked it up and did their civic duty, this is exactly why military commands or rewards arent gained based on personal feelings of worth or merit. The guy could have just waited and sorted it out after the war, would have been a war hero alongside washington but he couldnt just be a sherman and wanted to be Grant, he put his own pride ahead of the country.
Everyone liked Washington because he was selfless. He froze with his men, he fought with them, he was a total mess after the war and he never put himself or his pride ahead of the country.
You wonder why we villify the selfish traitor and glorify the Cinncinatus figure during a republican revolution?
