Was there anything written on PTSD and depression among warriors and soldiers throughout history?
Surely seeing your buddy get chopped in half or blown up by cannon would fuck people up mentally, whether its in ancient times or in the 18th century.
Some veterans today get panic attacks around fireworks. Would a soldier in the middle ages with PTSD also get anxiety when they hear the clang of a blacksmith's hammer, or see an animal getting slaughtered, or any other ordinary event that might remind them or cause them to relive their trauma?
I realize people in the past didn't think of mental disorders the same way, but still, was there any documentation on this?
People today are just weak

I've seen it posted at least a dozen times worded almost exactly the same.
