The soul is etched in a human being, even a brain dead person would have one. A lack of a soul in a human would mean that the body expired. It's sole purpose is to give immortality to humans.

Here's the hard truth. I've read the origenal philophical text that talks about the soul. What these people were actually trying to describe was brain function. In other words "soul" as it was origenally concieved is covered by neurology and science.

The early philosophers assumed the brain had an existence outside the body because they noticed certain information was known without being learned. Something today we would call "instincts" or "subconscious".

The reason that we still beleive "soul" is some magic thing is because certain religions promise an after-life.

The soul is the physical source of personal awareness. It is a monad with an informed nature. It's nature is one of self-referential knowing : You know that you know.

The brain is a means of imbuing the soul with energy. That is why the two are so related.
