Some of the original German settlers who would have been part of the Pennsylvania Dutch were actually settled in Ireland instead of the colonies in North America. They're known as the Irish Palatines and I'm descended from them.

The Amish are cool.
Especially when you get 16 year old amish girl on Rumspringa looking to grab any English meat she can. 0_0

Nothing whatsoever like the Amish in the US, but there are still small Baptist and Methodist communities of Irish Palatines, mostly in and around Rathkeale in county Limerick; an area otherwise mostly known for Irish gypsies, but also where our [muh] heritage centre is

I know, right?

What are your names like? Can you give me any typical examples?
>>2990633
Mostly Anglicised forms of German names. For example, my paternal grandfather changed his surname to an Irish one to fit in, but my "real" surname is Bovenizer (an anglicised version of Bubenhausen/Buvenhausen), which is a fairly typical Irish Palatine surname.
Another example is Switzer; the Switzers used to be a prominent family who own a large department store in Dublin. We have little in the way of heritage or traditions apart from our religion, but one thing is that we used to make our own Christmas decorations every year, and shit was something the Switzers did to decorate their store every Christmas.
Another tradition is that the man of the family would be buried with his family's bible but it doesn't take a genius to figure out why this died out rather quickly.
