No, because Turkey would be a much more wealthy and powerful state with their Islam dominating the region instead of Wahabism/Salafism. There would be no Saudi Arabia, no extremist mosque funding etc.

I think the real question here is that if Britain is so good how the fuck does Ireland exist?

Not only that, when they started to get ballsy again in your last bastion of Ireland-NI-when they rebelled and murdered their way across your country, how come you signed a deal which forever enshrined their cause as an integral and essential part of Northern Ireland?

You let Ireland secede, and then have essentially promised that Northern Ireland will eventually do the same by doing everything to protect nationalists and nothing to protect loyalists.

UK's foreign policy much like every other states is all about security. For the UK the balance of power in Europe is essential, if one continental power gets too strong it can conquer all the others. It just so happens that the UK has the English channel. This means that they can focus on a navy instead of an army for protection from invasion which is cheaper as less men are required. A navy is also important because it allows for power projection. A states have spheres of influence and because the UK had a big fucking navy it could invade resource rich places around the world and make money off them through colonization and empire. With lots of money and a big fucking navy the UK can now maintain a balance of power in Europe by funding powers that oppose states that seek to up heave the balance of power or god forbid unite Europe. If a state does become too powerful by uniting Europe it can create a fleet to rival the British and invade with an army. This therefore means that in order to ensure England survival, a divide and conquer strategy must be adopted linking back to the beginning about security.

TL;DR The English channel creates a foreign policy that relies on divide and conquer strategy so the English became masters of it over time, hence the Perfidious Albion meme which whilst being anti Anglo propaganda is rooted in reality and England foreign policy.

A key principle of IR is that all states want security above all else (both in soft and hard power respects), it really helps put into perspective past and present political events and actions such as the attack on mers-el-kébir (More enemy ships are bad news for Britain) and more recently the Arab-Israeli wars (water security, most of [illegally] occupied west bank has underwater aquifers that both sides want as the desert is fucking hot)

Because they needed it to do it to survive. If any country in Europe, be it France, Germany, Spain or the Netherlands, became too powerful the first hing they would do after taking over Europe is conquering Britain. Therefore it is wise to make sure this doesn't happen while you are still protected by the natural barrier surrounding your country. Once Britain did this a few times in Europe they realized they could do it outside of Europe too to great effect and boom, the rest is history.

The Marathas couldnt replace the Mughals as the sole power in the Subcontinent because those fucks kept on allowing local princes a lot of leeway for stability. What resulted is 18th Century India was pretty much warring states.
