Me too, got interested when i read that the Arabians cut their hair "skin tight" on their temples, with the top being obviously "Woolly". I think it was Herodotus.

Elaborate
The Nuragic peoples
The Chinese Warlord Era is basically a dark comedy about the most incompetent and insane people on earth being granted ultimate power over the lives of millions. Zhang Zongchang is possibly one of the most autistic people to ever hold supreme executive power.
>"It was also a matter of public amusement that he kept his aged mother with him at all times, except when on campaign, when he left her at his opulent palace."
>"By 1929 he was living quietly in Beppu, Japan, with his mother, though he was thrown into the spotlight again when he "accidentally" shot Prince Xiankai (憲開), a cousin of the deposed emperor Puyi. According to Zhang the gun he was holding while standing at his hotel window happened to go off and shoot the young prince in the back, killing him instantly, though it was more likely he killed the playboy prince for dallying with one of Zhang's many concubines."
If the entire period wasn't full of little absurdities like these it would actually be very depressing.

The Chinese Warlord Era and the Russian Civil War are two of the most hilariously depressing military conflicts. I'm actually quite sad there isn't more media, even tragi-comedy, about them. There's many factions and they all fall somewhere on the spectrum of "Ludicrously incompetent" to "Batshit insane".

I know right? I can't seem to find any media about this, and it really irks me.
Also, tfw Yan Xishan never crowned himself Emperor.

>During one of his campaigns, he publicly announced he would win the battle or come home in his coffin. When his troops were forced back he was true to his word--he was paraded through the streets, sitting in his coffin and smoking a large cigar
Bants on a whole new level

I once read a really interesting historical novel about the end of the Arsacid dynasty and the rise of the Sassanians, beginning with Ardashir I, from the POV of one of Ardashir's court officials. It was written by a Spanish author with a background in History (especially pre-Islamic Persia). Dunno if it was ever translated tho, read it in the original Spanish version since it's my mother tongue.
