What was the deadliest incident in which land troops being transported were attacked by proper naval vessels?

To clarify, what I mean isn't one naval vessel attacking another naval vessel designed to fight at sea. What I mean is, troops (infantry) meant to fight on land, that happen to be transported by sea, getting sunk, such that the troops "BLUB BLUB BLUB" down to the bottom of the ocean.

Additonally, are there any descriptive records of particular incidents of this happening?

I already know about Allied POWs of Japan getting sunk by submarines.

We narrowly avoided what would have been the biggest mass drowning in history when we dropped the bombs on japan. As for mass drowning, i think it might have been during the russo-japanese war, but IDK.

I think what happened is they found a minefield and tried to Zukhov it, unaware that only Russians have that passive buff.
