What went wrong?

Turns out that just because you're good at nation deconstruction doesn't necessarily mean you're good at nation construction.
>>2971646
dismissal of the iraqi army
>>2971719
It's not just the army. Everyone who worked for the Ba'ath government was fired. Every single one.
>>2971646
It didn't occur more than 25 years ago

>Sanction an import dependent country for 13 years
>Population 20million+ budget of only 2bil/yr
>Completely break down the fabric of society at all levels
>Nothing allowed in or out the country not even medicine
>Invade
>Putting country back together is difficult
>National identity wiped out
>Intellectual and middle class non existent anymore
Everything would have been better if we invaded in 1991 rather than 2003
>>2971729
>National identity wiped out
There wasn't even one to begin with.
>>2971729
>National identity
Iraq is nothing but a bunch of lines, that were drawn by the Anglos in the 20th century. It's a bunch of Shias, Sunnis, and Kurds mixed together.
>>2971731

Sure, but it was pretty stupid to abandon literal nation building while "nation building"
In fact the US must be the only country using "nation building" to mean setting up puppet regimes or whatever, it properly means consolidating national identity.
The entire point of Ba'ath ideology and a million other postcolonial movements is that you can turn those lines in the sand into nation-states just like all the other nations did.

>Everything would have been better if we invaded in 1991 rather than 2003
No. Everything would've ended up the same. The only thing that was keeping the country together, was Saddam.
>what went wrong
overthrowing this guy
>>2971745
>Nation building
That fake as fuck "HURR NEO-BABYLON" Saddam was building?
Nobody bought that.
That's the problem with secular Arab Nationalists: they were very blind to the realities of the people they govern and think they can just force memes forever.
>>2971646
They have IQs below average.
>>2971751
We are talking about Iraq. Not Iran.
>>2971755
You literally can if you just do it long enough. That's how everyone else did it you moron.
>>2971755
>That fake as fuck "HURR NEO-BABYLON" Saddam was building?
A Trillion times better than the alternative, which is ISIS taking over one third of the country.
