The common method of 'learning' Latin strictly by analysis, memorising declensions, how the rules of Latin relate to the rules of english and how to mechanically anglicise Latin sentences (aka grammar-translation) is pure meme invented by g*rmans, doesn't work, and is a great way to ensure you never develop reading fluency. If you find yourself having to convert a latin sentence to English in order to understand it then you have probably been memed on.
The only practical method to learn latin is by massive amounts of comprehensible input. The other method is by communication - used from the roman period up to the 1870s, but is sadly impractical now due to a lack of speakers.

Renaissance Latin - neo-Latin - is a reaction to the 'impure' mediaeval Latin and is consciously and heavily classicised, thus you learn standard classical Latin in order to learn neo-latin. Classical Latin is what underpins all forms of Latin and has by far the most beginners resources.
The currently best textbook to learn Latin is the Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata (LLPSI) series. You can find the pdfs for part 1 and 2 through google if you don't want to commit to buying yet. You need to supplement this with as much understandable latin as you can find search 'libri scholastici vivarium novum' for a selection few dozen beginners books, but be aware that there are far more out there if you go searching.
