He fucked up pretty bad and then just handed his job over to Putin when he didn't want to fix anything.

>>
He was a drunk

He was a big reformatter of old and corrupt "socialist" system which was heavily depended on oil prices and imports.
In the end of 80's Soviet Union was already economically dead and reforms leading to market economics were necessary.

Despite of him being addicted to alcohol in his late days, he wholeheartedly hated ideas of communism and sincerely loved his people. He seen that they deserved much better treatment and better prospects which ones "communists" were never able to provide.

As a Russian, I can safely say that he is among the most hated rulers of Russia. He brought anarchy, multiple wars and the most corrupt govt ever under the guise of """ reforms""". His further 1998 disastrous economic reform destroyed the rest of economic power Russia had, you can see the it in the exchange ratio of RUR, it fell down lower than any other country's money except Zimbabwe. He destroyed Russia by selling it to thieves and to the West.

Everything would be just fine if they have sticked with Gorby, he wasn't a heavyu alcoholic, and would actualy have tried to go trough with the reforms unironicaly.

Utterly destroyed Russian economy and started a meaningless war that killed tens of thousands of his people. He was Mugabe-tier
