Joe Rogan isn't a dumb fuck, he's just an ordinary everyday schmuck -- like his listeners. He's not a genius or anything, but doesn't pretend to be. And he's at least smart enough not to join Team Red or Team Blue, unlike most 'celebrity' opinionists in the US. He's pretty good at calling out bullshit, too. Sometimes I roll my eyes at the occasional dumb shit he can say, but for someone without a formal education, he's managed pretty darn well. I didn't like him at first, and avoided his podcast forever since I just knew him as the 'dumbass' meat-head host from Fear Factor and UFC.

Like any series or talk show, there are hit and misses. There have, however, been several really excellent thought-provoking discussions, and that's good enough for me. He is also pretty funny, though I don't think his stand up is anything to go wild about.

I commute an hour each way from home to work, and I like to either read or listen to podcasts on the way. I don't have a TV at home, so I also stream podcasts while cooking or sometimes while eating. I grew up listening to radio a lot, so I like the format.

Meanwhile, I find 99% of TV talk shows are superficial dumb shit for morons with short attention spans, run by superficial dumb cock-sucking hosts like Anderson Cooper or (formerly, lol) Bill O'Reilly et al. Shucksters and network puppets, all of them.

Radio, and especially podcasts, allow far more independence, and the quality of discussion reflects that. They also allow far more non-mainstream guests, as TV talkshows generally only invite the Hollywood gaggle when they have a new movie or shit.

Like when I stay at a hotel or visit a friend who has TV, and watch what's on 99% of the time on cable network TV, I myself don't get it. It's just so shallow and petty hysterical nonsense.

(Not saying there aren't good TV shows out there, btw... but you can generally access them with netflix, amazon or streaming, etc -- without bothering with network/cable garbage)
