Complete meme. Italy was an up in coming nation since it's unification which never really got the chance to become the European colonial power is was in a position to be. I personally blame manpower drain. If millions of Italians had gone to Libya instead of America and Argentina that'd be Italian clay to this day.

>What is Sinai and Gibraltar?
Sinai could obviously have been taken via Africa, but again that's assuming the Italian military was competent enough to take Egypt, which it wasn't. Gibraltar wasn't really instrumental in controlling the Mediterranean so much as controlling who could get into or out of the Mediterranean. Malta was the real thorn in the side of the Axis as far as controlling the Mediterranean and taking Africa.

>Beating the strongest nation on earth (British Empire) is not an easy task.
This isn't even a fucking argument, you're just saying "lol Britain stronk". Taking Malta should have been Italy's first move in the war, but in reality Operation C3 wasn't seriously planned until after the invasion of Greece. And by that time the Germans were already stretched thin in Africa and wary of paratrooper operations after Crete. But the Italians wouldn't even need German paratroopers if they had gone after Malta in 1940.

In June 1940, the British had the following on Malta-
>3 Glouster Gladiators
>5 Fairey Swordfish
>1 monitor (HMS Terror) and 2 gunboats to defend Malta; the Med Fleet had withdrawn to Alexandria.
>19 heavy coastal guns (varying in size from 12-inch to 16-inch), 130 smaller coastal guns (4.5-inch to 9.2-inch), 112 heavy and 144 light anti-aircraft guns.
>42 anti-aircraft guns
>Garrison of <4000 soldiers
>5 weeks of food supplies
At that time, Italy was capable of amphibious landings and they should have gone after Malta no matter the cost. Greece and Africa and Albania mean nothing, and they did mean nothing, if you can't choke the Brits out of the Med. And this is just one example of how completely incompetent the Italian military was. At the outbreak of hostilities, ~1/4 of Italy's merchant marine was in foreign ports and ended up being impounded. It's as if the military was making decisions on what to do day-to-day with no foresight into what could possible happen as a result of their actions.

>Complete meme. Italy was an up in coming nation since it's unification which never really got the chance to become the European colonial power is was in a position to be
That's probably better for them, looking at how Ethiopia went I'm not sure they'd be able to stand the humiliation.

> I personally blame manpower drain. If millions of Italians had gone to Libya instead of America and Argentina that'd be Italian clay to this day.
Based on what? Italy outnumbered the Allies in almost every major engagement it took part in independently. Egypt, Compass, Greece, etc were all failures. The only time they ever really had success was when the Germans were there to carry the team.

Memes all over the place.
Not understanding in which situation the Italian hugh command versed is bad if you want to sound like an expert on the topic.
Italy had a huge lack of skilled military commanders, the only decent one was Messe. And even still, Italy wasn't in the position to join a war againt a major power due to it's economical capacity; to be honest it surprises me how we didn't do even worse than what we did in WW2, and that is probably due to the fact that singularly Italian soldiers at the start of the war were highly motivated and skilled. They lacked equipment though...

Stolypin who was assassinated to halt his agrarian reforms maybe to bring about violent leftist revolution but Bogrov, the assassin, was also a member of the Russian secret police acting as an informant regarding leftist groups so a lot of people think it may have been a hit ordered by the more right-wing elements of the government. Notable, Stolypin's wife begged the court not to execute Bogrov (under the "killing him won't bring my husband back" reasoning) but he was tried and executed very quickly and the investigation was immediately closed by Nicholas.

Stolypin, notably, was one of the people who really, really hated Rasputin.

This isn't obscure information, any book/paper on the war is going to tell you that the Brits wanted the Italians to block out the French in the Red Sea.
>>
>>2970371
>wanted the Italians to block out the French in the Red Sea.
>wanted Italians to Conquer all of Ethiopia
Those are two separate things. The Italians succeeded in conquering Eritrea, which blocked French from red sea access to a considerable degree. Brits still aided in the Ethiopians in maintaining independence.
>>
>>2960134
Come on, dude. I'm not a Francophile, but by most metrics France is still a great power today.
>>
>>2970391
They aren't two separate things at all, Eritrea didn't exist as a modern state at this period, the Treaty of Wuchale split its governance between Ethiopia and Italy after Britain took over its previous controller, Egypt. Italy was being courted by the British as an ally in order to weaken Germany and they preferred total Italian control of Eritrea to split Italian/French control. The war was fought over a difference in interpretation of the Treaty of Wuchale by the Ethiopians and Italians because all of Europe save Russia and the Ottomans recognized the Italian claim over Ethiopia as a protectorate, but Ethiopia continued to act independently.

The mark of a good president is selecting a good cabinet. Grant was too good to a fault of selecting wartime heroes and office seekers to his cabinet who ended up corrupt at worst and inept at best. He was elected to lead, not to read.

How come even the fascists who didn't go to war (Franco, Peron, Salazar) couldn't keep the system going after their deaths?

Liberalism and communism winning the war. First off Franco wasn't a fascist but he was an authoritarian traditionalist. Who would back them? USA and USSR wouldn't,

>he doesn't have a cult of neo-fascists defending his every move, so we can acknowledge the mistakes he made

>he was one of the original creators of fascism, so he gets points for originality and having the balls to actually implement his system instead of sitting in an ivory tower wishing people would listen to him

>he was manly as fuck, muscular and willing to literally sword duel any motherfucker who insulted him

>he was very clearly enjoying his time as dictator, as you can see by the mannerism of his speeches and their frequency. Like mom and dad always said, the important thing is that you have fun.

>he was fairly benevolent as far as dictators go, he wasn't out to exterminate other races and once in power he killed very few of his own people on purpose. He was morally superior to men like Hitler and Stalin.

>he definitely made mistakes, but some of those mistakes can be attributed to Hitler spazzing out on Europe. Had Hitler never come into power, Mussolini might have been known as a decent, albeit authoritarian dictator who spread the fascist ideology across the world
>>
>>2970752
I like grant, he had good intentions and that counts for a lot, but he was too stuck in the military mindset of "I tell you what to do and you do it to the letter or I discipline you" and that just doesn't fly in politics. He tried his best and I respect him for that but his best just wasn't enough .

Italy was Spain-tier for the entirety of it's existence up to Mussolini's ascension, that's why the king gave him power in the first place. And not even Mussolini could save that spaghetti and turd sandwich.

If he had stayed away from Hitler he could have waited until Italy industrialized after 5 years or so, this would have actually benefited Germany as they could have maintained a trade relationship without Germany having to bail out Italy's failures, and when Italy finally does decide to do a power grab against some of the smaller European, African, and middle eastern nations everybody is going to be too busy dealing with Germany, Japan, and worrying about the USSR to want to deal with Italy.

Turkish independence Ain’t free. The tree of reforms and secularism gotta be litterd with the blood of Islamists. Mehmed OTTOMAN VI aka “Şahbaba ” is not my sultan. he is Entente collaborator and probbaly arab as well :DD. nationalism and republicanism not "union and progress" ok. happy is he who says, "I am a Turk"

Ataturk is arguably one of the best ways that a person could go about holding despotic power, to reform his nation and leave a legacy of a functioning republic in order to let those reforms pay off in the form of well chosen governments.

They're actually falling for his superhero comic-esque cartoonish body language and they either don't know that Mussolini was a bloodthirsty war criminal like Hitler or they actually love him precisely because he's a genocidal maniac.

He's a real life villain, a walking caricature.
