Imagine being a hunter gatherer. You get to hunt and fish all day, in our modern system those are leisure activities. Basically every day is a hunting or fishing trip with your best mates all of whom are your brothers or childhood friends. All the gathering was done by women too.

Now you understand why Cain was an asshole.

These days when you go out your not worrying that not catching anything will lead to your families death's. You think lazily sitting around in a lawn chair with a high tech weapon or fancy fishing rod to catch a measly amount of calories once a week for a small part of the year is in any way comparable to having to use primitive bows, spears and fish traps every day all year with no breaks, Risking injury that you have no medical tech to heal or death. And when you fail your starving child can't go to the grocery store, they die.

Hunter gatherers had way more food security and less famine than any agricultural societied until the 20th century (controlled for habitat quality). This is supported also by accounts of the Old West by explorers who got to witness the forests and plains of North America before coming of agriculture and the super abundance of game there.

He was specifically comparing them to the modern day first world though. Yes Hunter-Gatherers had it better than most farmers in the past, but that was no cake-walk either and is still worse than today.
The Old west is also kind of misrepresented by those settlers (through no fault of their own) because the Old World diseases and Horses that had arrived long before the settlers ever did had led to a population explosion in things like Bison far beyond their normal numbers while devastating the settled agricultural societies of the region leaving the equivalent of Mad Max nomads riding around on these new-fangled horse-creatures that seemed to have appeared from nowhere.

Worse perhaps in terms of food security but were they happier? They did things humans find naturally enjoyable all day, all work you did was immediately rewarding with visible tangible benefit to the worker. I hunt and killing animals is literally physically enjoyable in terms of the sheer adrenaline and dopamine rush you get. Add to that the lack of communicable diseases, chronic metabolic diseases and all kinds of other health problems that arise from modern living and the fact that everyone lived in small multigenerational communities bound together by family ties. I have no doubt they were also much healthier mentally.

This 100%. Civilization was a mistake, we are too far removed from the environment we evolved for millions of years to exist in.

Jesus Christ m8, the entire reason civilization developed was to be safe from nature. You go camping once a year in the middle of summer for a week. You bring everything modern you can to make that week bearable and then you go home.

You don't have to survive in the middle of winter and hope you've got enough supplies to survive it. There are no lions or wolves or bears or even a wild dog that will attack you.

Humans are not meant to live as "one with nature" we dominate it, the same way most animals build dens to escape the elements and predators so did we. Fuck off you filthy hippy.
