Religion basically means organized worship. You can be irreligious, as in not part of any of the organized worship bodies and institutions, but not necessarily not spiritual.
You can even be an irreligious christian - you believe in and follow the original messages, as they reached you, but don't belong to the organization, don't worship on their terms, and so on.

So a person being irreligious isn't necessarily an atheist.


Additionally, every religious person is an atheist when it comes to other religions.
A good catholic is an atheist when it comes to the greek or nordic gods. Not only do they not belong to the organized worship of these, but they actively argue they don't exist and are false.

Anyone who claims to be more intelligent than a God-believer just because he is an atheist, should doubt his opinion, because having one answer right does not mean having many answers right. If tested there would be plenty atheists that believe as much or more shit than religous people do.
