How come America lost vietnam so badly?
>>2948159
Because there was a severe disconnect between the material resources necessary to prosecute the war, and the willingness to fight said war; while economically and militarily, the U.S. could have kept up the war indefinitely and easily have expanded its presence, there was significant popular backlash against such a move, which was seen as pointlessly pouring blood and treasure into a jungle shithole that didn't even want us there.
>>2948159
the media fucked it up, the rise of liberalism and liberal media made everyone antiwar and any war was equated to muh hitler or ww2. and its been that way ever since

This.
Tactically speaking the US came out on top for almost every engagement it found itself with the NVA/VC and killed a fuckload of Vietnamese, both North and South. Strategically though, it was all for nothing because we failed to stop the NVA from taking South Vietnam.
The worst aspect of the war, for me at least, is how it completely tore the US apart culturally and set precedent on the way our current "wars" would be fought

>You see Jimbo, if you let enemy achieve his strategic objective, you win!
Why do we have this thread every day?
The US kicked ass militarily. The military was not allowed to invade north Vietnam or go in after the NVA broke the ceasefire for political reasons.

That's Hitler's fault then, not the media. Hitler is akin to the retard in class who ruins the lesson everyone because he was too busy banging his chest and being disruptive.
because Vietnam has bullshit plot-armor
>kicks France's ass
>kicks America's ass
>kicks China's ass

Because Johnson wasn't willing to risk WW3 by bombing Hanoi.

this. tunnels are OP as fuck, pls nerf
Because the United States was divided over the war, and the geopolitical situation limited their options due to threat of escalation of conflict.
Imagine trying to build a sand-castle out of shit.
You can hold it up forever, but it's still going to slide back down the second you take the mold off.
Eventually you get bored and leave the beach, and a wave washes everything away.
You begin to walk home, and you see the Frenchman who took a shit on the beach making his way over to central Africa.

They didn't. North Vietnam could not win the war as long as America was still there. They were willing to lose 10 to 1 men in order to win. However, the North knew that as long as there were American troops still fighting, they would not win. America eventually was like "Fuck it, not worth it." Remember, America pulled out in 73, Saigon fell in 75. What should have happened from the beginning is if LBJ had been honest about what would happen, the North might have sued for peace sooner.

i think you mean its hitlers moms fault

>it completely tore the US apart culturally and set precedent on the way our current "wars" would be fought
This
Except for the Civil War, there is no other event that damaged the American psyche in such a profound way as Vietnam did.
>>2948159
VIETNAM WAS NEVER DECLARED.
STOP SAYING IT WAS A WAR, BECAUSE IT WASN'T.
THEREFORE AMERICA DIDN'T LOSE SHIT

Could it count as a win for Vietnam then.

bad
Vietnam was fighting for Vietnam
America was fighting for ideology and geopolitics
America won militarily and lost politically. Frankly, the US administration, media and public did not allow the armed forces to win the war.

fake as fuck such tunnels never existed please don't post comic book content on /his/.

Wars are military means to political ends.
>>2948159
america just wanted to contain communism not fight in a war
>>2948159
Better question is why American's are so obsessed over the idea of "winning" a morally objectionable war in the first place.
>muh domino theory
>immediately goes to war against China after unification
>removed Khmer Rouge
>America absolutely dominates every aspect of the war in Vietnam
>Euros who understand nothing of war because they're soft cunts say America "lost badly"
lol
>>2953083
Well if "badly" means they took a huge beating then true enough they didn't.
But if it means they completely failed to achieve their political objectives even partially, then yes they did

good thing Vietnam won than.
Really one of the few "good vs bad" wars throughout history.
