>UK public had lost interest in retaking America during the war of independence, likely why there'd been no attempt to recapture the colony
>Later on UK is ready for a war again with the previous generation have died off and tensions with US are raising
>Still view US as a colony/ not a fully sovereign nation as proven by press ganging US citizens into royal navy
I'm reasonably certain that had it not been for the Napoleonic wars the UK would have re-invaded the US and annexed them. Thoughts on this?

At least to a degree this is true. All the conflict in Europe kept Britain on edge and didn't let them focus on other things that they could've such as in the Americas. Also America did get a massive amount of land from Napoleon which 50 years later would be home to millions of Americans and have centers of industry which helped put America above Britain itself.

Yeah the Americans became far too powerful to completely annex by the time Britain was ready to go to war again. My point was that Napoleon took the only opportunity the British would have to really take back America.
They also were a bit embarassed by the American incident and felt they had to regain a bit of glory and Napoleon seemed like a moderately simple target so they went to the continent instead of going back to the new world
Nothing woud exist if it weren't for the other something, we are a totality anon

Part of history is determining what chain of events brought us to now. It's interesting to think about the influence of people like Napoleon
fuck you
stop giving frogs credit for our independence
Anyways they tried to annex us in 1812
But God told them to fuck off.

This isn't really true, while Britain showed that the US wouldn't be able to challenge British control of their colonies for the foreseeable future, the US still pulled up 500,000 defensive militia or something ridiculous by 1814, making any full invasion non sensible. Britain probably could have forcibly seized and annexed New England where popular sentiment was somewhat pro British, but nothing else, and likely not all the way to Boston.

The USA owes its independence to Napoleon and Frederick the Great, some might argue that it owes it more to Frederick keeping the colonial powers occupied in Europe was one of the largest deciding factors for the American revolution outside of the continental USA.
That and he was the first monarch to recognize the USA as an independent nation.

What is the war of 1812? They literally burned our capital building to the ground. And still the US was independent. It would have legitimized itself somehow, but French recognition and naval support was instrumental in US victory in the actual war for independence.

Just look at India, Australia, or South Africa. Britain was in control for a long time but independence is inevitable. It's generally a good thing, but it supports the myth that colonialism and influence don't still exist.
