Communism interests me, especially how it lead to such great horror in places like the Soviet Union.
I want to read up on it but I dont know where to start.
I'd like to know about how it developed and spread to become such a huge thing in eastern europe.
I'd like to know about communist methodology.
Anybody got some material like that to read/watch?
Help me out please.

Besides the USSR, Yugoslavia, Albania and East Germany the communist movements weren't really organic.

I wanted to read Solzhenitsyn at some point, I just dont know if its a good starting point.
Is it merely about his experiences in a gulag or does it extend past that?

Yes, he attempts to reconcile how belief in communist ideology lead to its disastrous consequences

Well then I have something to read now.
Thanks.
Black Book of Communism
It trigger commies, because it's accurate and well-sourced. Specially, it uses sources that were open during the 1990s but are unavailable now, so we will probably never get a better source for the crimes of Soviet communism, unless Putin falls and the next regime finally opens the NKVD/KGB archives.

That looks great, thank you.

Assuming this isnt just bait Marxism came to Russia in the 1880s and the first prominent group was plekhanov's Emancipation Of Labour. If you actually want to learn about communism in eastern europe before the spread of Marxism read up on the narodniks

Parts of the Russian Presidential Archives that were opened during the Yeltsin era.
Most remain closed, though.
