You fell for the McMeditation shit. Its devoid of any progress be it spiritual or not. So breathing meditation without any further development doesn't lead to anything concrete.
You need to build on top of breathing meditation with things like concentration, insight, equanimity, compassion, etc.

Concentration can be established, but spiritual progress, the ultimate goal, is slow to progress. Meditation is the recommended method of the Satya Yuga, chanting is the recommended method of the Kali Yuga. Its akin to using an axe or a chainsaw to cut a tree. Both methods work, but one is much more effective. However if you do insist on meditating, meditation on Krishna is best. Any other form of meditation is focused towards the impersonal Brahman where Krishna is the Para Brahman
