Doomed to an endless political trench with Serbian conservatives, Slovenes and Muslims on one side and Croats, Serbian liberals and socialists on the other.
The Serbs should have just let Croatia and Slovenia fend for themselves in 1918, instead of insisting on this Frankenstein, to which everyone, every great power not to mention, large chunks of each ethnicity was against. For some reason, only Norway thought it was a good idea, don't ask me why.

There was no dominant culture that could successfully subdue the rest. The Serbs simply weren't strong enough and yugoslavian identity wasn't heartfelt enough. You can't keep it together like that.

This is exactly why it fell apart. If the individual republics had more autonomy and Serb nationalism was kept in check with a harsher constitution it would have survived far longer. Would have.

Maybe if it was reorganised as a confederacy during its time as a monarchy, it could survive a bit longer.
There's also the theories about a South Slavic state as part of the triple monarchy but in that case, it's basically just replacing Serbs with Croats as the expansionist force (not that they weren't already like that in a Serbian-led Yugoslavia).

Are you talking about the Kingdom or SFRY? If the former, sure (though it would have been difficult).

If the latter lol no, Serb nationalism wasn't a factor prior to the mid/late 1980s, while Croat nationalism was destabilizing the country multiple times (Maspok, diaspora terrorism, etc).

Croatia gets its historical territories (plus Vrbas), Serbia gets its historical territories (plus upper Vojvodina and that bit in Drina across the river), no war involved, good neighborly relations.

It was screwed from the start, the only reason it lasted as long as it did was because of Josip Broz Tito.


He held that shit together with an iron fist and he did a damn good job; dude stamped out any form of nationalism from any of the republics be it Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, any of em he tried his damnedest to form the identity of Yugoslavia/

But when he died the country just accelerated to it's inevitable demise. Ethnic tensions went through the roof and then Milosevic started shit with the Albanians and Serb nationalists in Kosovo and it all started tumbling down.

I hate to say it, but as a Bosniak, the overwhelming majority of people here are just simpletons, IQ is not a meme and it can be used to broadly model societal behavior. Why did the whole thing erupt into horrible civil war? The average IQ is 90, and lower in the more mountainous areas.
