Been reading about decolimization and from what I have read it really seems that a gradual process of decolinization would have gone a long way towards stabilizing the post colonial regimes especially in Africa.

The purpose of a colony was to make money, not to benefit brown people.

Once they became unprofitable, they were liquidated as quickly as possible.
>>
yeah in retrospect we can say a lot of shit like that, but the bottom line is that colonizers didn't give two shits about africa and bolted the second it wasn't in their best interests

That's a fucking no brainer Anon.

The problem is that

>America demanded the European powers decolonise as soon as possible
>post-war poverty meant that the Europeans could no longer even maintain any control to the extent needed to keep stability
>all of the local western-educated elite were agitating, encouraging the natives to rise up in communist revolutions etc.
>liberals on the home front in Europe demanding that the colonies be given up immediately

In the end they just said fuck it. Attempts to try and get some parts of Africa stabilised before they left ended up falling apart due to acrimony between all involved. It was never as simple as "they left because they were no longer profitable".

Because stabilizing is incredibly vague and can be "budged" so to say to suit the cloisters interest or delayed indefinitely to as long as they desire as well as way to leash them in some way directly or indirectly.

Also huge burdens to he colonizer if the place WANTS to remain with them. Look how France basically is saddled with it's territories that since they are citizens with equal rights France just can't cut ties with them

>The people do not want to lose their high standard of living compared with those territories which broke away from France or other imperial powers. The GDP per capita of French Polynesia exceeds US$20K, far higher than any former French colony. France pumps some US$2B in aid annually into Polynesia that provides jobs and funds infrastructure work. France would like to rid itself of that burden but the Polynesians won’t allow that to happen.

Not only, and not really. An abrupt change in European public opinion (as abrupt as banning slavery had been, one century earlier) made decolonization as much of a White man's urge as a Black man's. Just look at Rhodesia's example: they treated the black majority in the 60s as well as anybody in the 30s, but public opinion wanted Black rule, even if there was no Black educated class to speak of, so the country was embargoed into near-collapse. Profit had relatively little to do with it.
Other examples, like Belgian Congo, mix the influence of the public opinion with that of profit.

This. Totally and utterly agree.

Euros still had colonies until like the ~60's with Portugal until the 70's. So around 15 year s of colony rule and in Britain' case afaik they made great use of colonies to pay their bill of war repairs. Colonies aren't expensive to maintain though since many are ruled with a shoestring budget and used native taxation at that point in time which was sufficient enough for the colonies needs. It's the fact that war would heavily up the costs that made giving them up the more savvy choice.

It wasn't communist revolutions really.

>even if there was no Black educated class to speak of,

They did though. Just very few in number but they had a big number of high school level but unemployed Africans that had no jobs because those high school level jobs were white reserved only.

Barring a few states

You know when they said majority rule it never ment a Black government. It ment a government where the all the people in the Rhodesian state can vote and participate so that the government represents the will of the majority which just so happen will be mostly black since Rhodesia is vastly a Black population. Instead the RF just bitched and moaned about that instead of I dunno maybe trying to stay in power by garnering the votes of now enfranchised Blacks by balancing their needs with that of the constituents that voted them in like what democracy normally is?
