Post Peoples or Cultures that have been effectively lost to time for whatever reason be it disease or conquest

Pic Related, the Guanche People were a group of Proto-Berber people indigenous to the Canary Islands. Are there any of them left? What did they look like? Where did they come from?

There was a Brythonic speaking population in the south of Ireland until the 9th century. The Irish called their language "Iarmbélre", or "Iron speech", "because of the darkness of the language, and its obscurity and density, so that it is difficult to explore"
>>
While there are many examples of small and, frankly, irrelevant people that have largely disappeared, I'm more interested in the disappearance of entire civilizations and cultural traditions.

For example, the "Mitteleuropa" civilization of the late XIXth and early 20th centuries, the German-speaking, urban civilization of Central and Eastern Europe, that gave us Austrian art, German science and Hungarian and Polish mathematics, has largely disappeared, and nothing remains but a few surviving Habsburg buildings.

The Turco-Persian civilization of the Muslim world is another example of lost urban culture. It once spanned from the walls of Vienna to Bengal, but now even Iran turns its back to it. It remains in Sufi shrines of South Asia, but even this is also disappearing thanks to the pressures of modernization and Islamism.
>>
>>2932706
Speaking of the Muslim world, what were the Berbers like before they were Arabized? I remember reading that the Amazigh Berbers are the closest to the original Berbers before the Islamic Conquests began

The Nuragic civilization.

These people had aqueducts, metal pipes, left behind thousands of stone structures and refined temples, built the massive stone statues predating those of Greece by at least two centuries, they had their own ponderal system and adopted a writing system in their later phases according to the latest studies.

Ancient historians often said that the ancient inhabitants were Tyrrenians/Pelasgians, so I think that they might have been related to the Etruscans, they also found out that in the earlier phases of the Etruscan civilization Nuragic people lived among them in some of the cities by the coasts, those near to the iron deposits.
>>
>>2933152
No no no. I mean we literally know nothing about this group other than they were persecuted and hated. We don't even know what membership of the group entailed, as they seemed to have the same phenotype and religion as their neighbors. The name's just not quite coming to me.

It was sometime during the Middle Ages; sorry, I don't remember anything more specific than that. I would also like to repeat that when I say "we know nothing", I mean we know nothing, other than that you could be born into the group, the group followed the same religion as everyone else, and everyone else hated them extremely. So it's not the Waldensians, who know quite a bit about and who still exist. Damn, now it's really going to bother me until I figure it out.

You're thinking of the Cagots.
I'm inclined to think they're related to the Goths, but nobody knows for sure.
>>
>>2933207
Fuck yes. Thank you.

The Cagots. They were found in southwest France and northern Spain. They were typically required to live in separate quarters in towns called cagoteries, excluded from all political and social rights, were not allowed to marry non-Cagots, enter taverns, hold cabarets, use public fountains, sell food or wine, touch food in the market, work with livestock, or enter the mill, and had to wear special dress identifying themselves as Cagots. They were not an ethnic or religious group, and spoke the same languages as everyone else in their region. We know they did have some unique cultural elements of their own, but everything about that culture has been lost to history or not written down, so now we literally only know that everyone hated them with a passion, but have no idea why or what a Cagot even was. Which is weird since this persecution lasted well into the Industrial Age and the 19th century.

One of the most fascinating unsolved mysteries of history, in my opinion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cagot

>Another possible explanation of their name Chretiens or Christianos is to be found in the fact that in medieval times all lepers were known as pauperes Christi, and that, whether Visigoths or not, these Cagots were affected in the Middle Ages with a particular form of leprosy or a condition resembling it, such as psoriasis. Thus would arise the confusion between Christians and Cretins.[3] However, early edicts apparently refer to lepers and Cagots as different categories of undesirables.[7] By 1593 the distinction was explicit. The Parlement of Bordeaux repeated customary prohibitions against them but added when they are lepers, if there still are any, they must carry 'clicquettes'.[9]
>In a study in 1683, doctors examined the Cagots and found them no different from normal citizens. Notably, they did not actually suffer from leprosy or any other disease that would justify their exclusion from society.

Taino indian blood has been found in the inhabitants. It doesn't matter that they are mixed, ashkenazi jews are mixed too but that doesnt stop them from being jews, obama was mixed but he was still black. It boils down with the culture you have and what you identify with. I notice this extremely strict standards for identifying with indigenous peoples means you have to have 100% of that blood in you, which frankly no one really does at this point except a few isolated tribes. I don't like to get into conspiracies but I feel it's an attempt to erase that identity by denying people the right to identify with it.

We don't know much at all about the exterminated negrito population of Taiwan. They were presumably linked to the negritos down south in the Philippines and the rest of southeast Asia, but their language/customs/etc. are all lost.

They are only remembered at all because Taiwanese aborigines have a ceremony marking their final destruction hundreds of years ago. The pic is modern Taiwanese dressed up in the traditional attire for that festival.

There was a mainstream news story on this stuff a few years ago:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-taiwan-pygmies-20130102,0,1662679.story

>Taiwan ritual honors lost tribe of 'small people'

>XIANG TIAN HU, Taiwan — Chu Kuo-sheng danced for 24 hours in the cold mountain rain to draw attention to a seldom-discussed chapter of Taiwanese history. He linked arms with dozens of others, chanted and slowly shuffled across a field.

>About 600 people performed the exhausting ritual last weekend that honors a pygmy-like people, skin as dark as those from equatorial Africa, who Chu's own tribe admits to exterminating in battle between 1,000 and 2,000 years ago.

>The ceremony, called Pasta'ay, is a tribute to a lost tribe of pygmies, who may have numbered 90,000 at their peak and resembled tribes living today in Papua New Guinea. They disappeared, leaving no archaeological records that point conclusively to their existence. But anthropologists believe they were wiped out by other tribes like the Saisiyat, of which Chu is a member.

>The ceremony is held every two years to thank the vanquished tribe for teaching its neighbors how to farm when they shared a steep, forested region of Taiwan just south of today's main high-tech district.

Okay, I agree with your point. But a lot about the Taino Indians is now lost. Their language for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ta%C3%ADno_language

Taino is still spoken as is their culture in Garifuna communities. Taino in Dominican still have a reserve and while mixed retain significant cultural markers as well.

Vlachs still burned their houses down when the arable lands around it started losing fertility, then moved further either up- or downstream. We can track the movements of villages in this manner thanks to ancient maps and archeological studies. It might be linked.

Romanians are completely unrelated to the Cucuteni people. We're barely Dacian as it is.

The Reivers of the debatable lands.

Basically cowboys of the time who lived between england and scotland which was like the wild west in the fact that no one was in 100% control.

The Local Clans of this area would pillage and rule up until about 1530 when king James would ethnically cleanse the area

Supposedly had domesticated coyotes and were tatted up. I live in the area they came from and always look for midden heaps of oyster shells or arrow heads or anything in the woods and salt marshes or brazoria county. I guess with the hurricanes and flooding and what not that stuff washed away long ago

Morlachs, Romance-speaking, Catholic Slavs who were BFF with the Venetias and thrived as long as they ruled the Dalmatian coast. Nowadays only 3 people identify themselves as such.

Native Texan here. The Karankawa actually had bounties put on them in the 1800s so they ended up relocating into West Texas and Northern Mexico. The last known Karankawa died in the 1930s if I recall.

They were also apparently tall as fuck, averaging 6 ft.

All peoples of the Mexico were more or less related. Civilizations were unstable due to violent conflict and environment, but it's not like Teotihuacans inhabitants were all beamed up by aliens. Some wandered into the jungles, some stayed in the area and were absorbed by other city states.

It's been said they were pre-Celtic, but they have the same name as a Brythonic tribe that was driven out of Britannia by the Romans.

The Goth theory seems unlikely to me.

"Goth culture" was actually "popular" in the area.
The Catalan language, for example, took many influences. And during the middle ages, most names in the area were of Germanic origin.

I doubt Goths were thought of a separate group, even less at the time of the Cagots.

They're Taiwanese Aborigines. They're Austronesians.

I don't think they are extinct but over 80% of the Dzungars were massacred by the Qing Dynasty. They were Oirats and the last great nomadic empire left in Asia. Their genocide finally ended Mongol power in Inner Asia. The land of Dzungaria was incorporated as part of Chinese territory and re-populated by the Qing with Manchu, Han, Hui, Uyghurs, and Xibes subjects.

Assimilated into the local Chinese populace, most likely. Some few ancient Indo-European loan words in modern Chinese would suggest as much at least.

Popular misconception. Obama was the first mulatto president, not the first black president.

I remember a thread on these folk being the most popular and always at the top here for a couple days.

Considering most Israelis are Mizrahi by far, they wouldn't know. Ashkenazi make up a minority of the Israelis. Even the pure Ashkenazim were forcibly turned Mizrahi since it's the only way the Mizrahim wouldn't kill them.

Not only yellows are racist, but blacks definetely are, as well. There are (and have always been) innumerous racial conflicts between tribes.

Australian Aboriginals had over 500 different tribes in Australia, only a few languages are left from their culture. Some relatives of mine have been worked on compiling a dictionary on the native language group of where I'm from, Gumbaynggirr.

I got annoyed watching an episode of Q.I. they were talking about Australian slang, then a panelist said something obnoxious like, oh, why don't they have their own language. Before British Settlement, language groups were in the hundreds.
