A big part of the Griffith mythos and the whole Berserk thing is that they are 'ordinary humans' that start reaching divine/demonic levels of power through sheer will power.

The Jesus mythos is that he was born divine so there is no heroic struggle.

Jesus's own followers were few in numbers and unlike Griffiths lacked loyality. One of them betrayed the guy for a petty amount of money and the others never even bothered defending their cult leader (although that's arguable because they had no real power on the other hand it makes them seem like cowards). Griffith's followers regularly risk death for him.

Jesus's cult was immediently usurped by Paul who made it into it's modern day success. While Griffitho's cult is successful by his own hand.

1) Everyone was willing to sacrifice their lives for him anyway

2) So many of his men had already died for him their sacrifices would be a waste if he failed.

yup and i have a soft spot for it too, but it can be quite an awkward starting point considering it skips the first arc of the manga and cuts out a lot of the context from the golden age arc like puck and the skull knight so that you pretty much have to reread the story again if you start the manga after the anime.
