Yes, just for spawning Christianity and Islam.

Collective punishment is a bit primitive but there are a lot of legitimate grievances that societies have historically had against the Jewish diaspora.
People are always going to resent a segment of the population with completely different allegiances and who tend to occupy less accountable power positions (academic, legal, financial and more recently media positions).

Seems a bit far to exterminate them down to the last child though.
