Funny. I heard those were land powers.

>a fucking thalassocracy losing a was to utter landlubbers
The only thing Carthage was is a disgrace. If you wanted to have a sea power from antiquity use Rhodes or Athens instead.

>I heard those were land powers.
Rome still had a monopoly on sea power from Oresund to the southernmost coasts of Morocco, all Mediterranean (also some Red Sea and Persian Gulf at times) included. They definitely ruled the waves even if it wasn't their focus.
Byzantium had a spotty record with lots of ups and downs, but eh it probably still counts considering there weren't other real organized navies at the times, just raiders.

The Mediterranean was called mare nostrum for a reason
>>2922729
after punic wars and with the conquest of greece Rome had the total supremacy on the mediterranium, they still had a lot of problems with piracy tho, probably for the reason you said, it was a land power and their control of the sea was a direct consequence of it, they have never been a mainly naval nation like Phoenicia and Carthage
>>2922826
This. Rome turned the Med. into it's private lake.
>>2922445
You mean this one?
>>2922800
You do understand Carthage was a dominant power for centuries before the Punic Wars, right? Every empire eventually falls.

carthage is a kingdom

How were they a kingdom if by 480 bc the government had two elected suffetes, aristocratic council (tribunal of 104) and an assembly representing the people.
