yes, the cathedral was extensively damaged, though the structure remained standing during WWII and repairs needed to be done. as for the stained glass, I would imagine that much of it needed to be replaced, though it is possible that some of the original stained glass has been retained.

I know that in the case of Strasbourg Cathedral, the Nazis had the windows removed and stored in a salt mine in case of Allied bombing. A good amount of Cologne's windows were damaged by the war, but a few might have survived if they were removed.

That could be possible. The interior of the church was not really damaged, but pehaps it's case that some windows never were coloured stained glass.

I think a lot of stained glass could have been hidden during the war. Windows are often the first things that are destroyed during the bombings,

>Kowloon Walled City was a largely-ungoverned densely-populated settlement in Kowloon City in Hong Kong. Originally a Chinese military fort, the Walled City became an enclave after the New Territories were leased to Britain by China in 1898. Its population increased dramatically following the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong during World War II. By 1987, the Walled City contained 33,000 residents within its 2.6-hectare (6.4-acre) borders. From the 1950s to the 1970s, it was controlled by local triads and had high rates of prostitution, gambling and drug abuse.
>In January 1987, the Hong Kong government announced plans to demolish the Walled City. After an arduous eviction process, demolition began in March 1993 and was completed in April 1994.
Only the very end of the city's history breaks the rules.

What is architecture if not a visual art?
Architecture, by definition, begins where construction, which isn't humanities, ends.
>>2907749
I'm simply telling you - the second someone says "& humanities" as a reason to post something you should immediately realize that no amount of explanation will stop them from treating /his/ as their dumping ground for whatever they feel like at any given moment. It's the ultimate blank cheque.
Not that Kowloon isn't /his/ related by virtue of chronology anyway.

>and how aesthetics isn't a humanities field.

Is it so hard at least to restrict your humanitiesposting to the 25 year rule? Humanitiesposting indiscriminately basically makes this board /b/, you can literally swindle anything into humanities.
>>2907869
I agree, but architecture is not a subject that is completely alien to the ideal idea of this board, unlike modern politics or anthropology or kathlics=/=christians discussions.
Tell me, when was the last time you saw an architecture or art thread on /b/?

The Mormons had trouble getting young folk to shack up; you were either forced into an arranged marriage or met your future wife by having illicit sex and then knocking her up and marrying her in a scandalous affair.
So they built this thing over the Great Salt Lake so young folk could mingle and flirt. There's an upper deck where Church Authorities would hang around and look down at the young folk, watching over them to make sure they weren't getting a bit too fresh.
It reminds me a bit of those casinos that have a one way mirror in the ceiling so the House always knows what you're doing.

But they have nicer aesthetics than modern Chinese towns, in addition to actually having small heritage sites that are mostly unknown to tourists.

actually, it was never attempted, though you are correct that there have been many collapses in the transept and choir. in this photo you can see the the nave of beauvais' romanesque predecessor on the west end of the church where the nave would be had they constructed it.
