China reinstated and abolished slavery multiple times.
The Qin Dynasty abolished it, while the Han returned it as a form of penal servitude and the fate of foreign war captives in China. Then the Ming Dynasty abolished it again, though it was low-key continued. The final abolition of slavery in China was in the 18th Century, although the landlords that existed virtually ran on unpaid labor- justified by claiming that the area belonged to the farmers who were their laborers (in China, most farmland was owned collectively by clan villages, considering that they were essentially large families of related people). The Republic declared all slavery abolished.
It's worth noting that slaves bought abroad were never included in abolitions.

Forced labour is still worthy enough to note. Not like you could say no at all.
