His critique of the systemic ills of capitalism is really quite accurate; labor alienation and class struggle are ostensibly correct assumptions, but the broader-reaching societal implications of communism or transitory socialism at large (eg how classlessness is fundamentally incompatible with humans being heirarchical animals) were never really fleshed out or explored scientifically. In fact, he presents so few details about socialism that almost all definitions of it have been extrapolations by later communist philosophers. That being said, his body of work has opened an important dialogue in realizing some few important issues, such as profit being inherently exploitative, how automation and human admixture makes human labor observably more disposable, and questioning the integrity of heirarchies and wealth disparity in particular.
