Khmer Rouge started the Battambang uprising and Lon Nol's shenanigans were all in response to that. Pol Pot was a warlord from the boonies while Lon Nol was trying to prevent collapse so Lon Nol was objectively better even if he was a superstitious ruler.

Also all the anti-capitalist anti-imperialist theories are wrong because native warlords can be just as exploitative if not more than foreigners or foreign sympathizing despots and because individual rights are an essential freedom and inherently valuable in themselves.
