Why has this metal been considered valuable for thousands of years? Is it just "Muh shiny objects" or is there something more to it?
It's rare and can be put in a form that's easily transportable.

Relatively rare, easily molded, and it corodes very slowly. In an era before modern institutions it was probably the best way to keep a stable monetary system.
Jews need it to sustain their mind manipulating powers.
Rare: small amounts of it represent significant proprtion of the total supply, so a lot of "value" comes in a small package
Durable: gold is extremely chemically non-reactive and does not decay or degrade, so it works as a long term store of wealth
Relatively small changes in supply: related to the previous point and the fact that we have been hoarding it for millennia - the amount mined in a given year is very small relative to the amount already possessed, so supply (and therefore value) is relatively stable, increasing confidence to be used as a store of value and medium of exchange. (Note, there are exceptions to this.)
Can be arbitrarily divided: unlike, say, a cow, you can always just add more or less gold in any increment to represent any value you need
Verifiable: fake gold can be detected simply by measuring its density (a technique famously developed by Archimedes)
All these combined make it convenient as a sort of "money." It should be noted, however, that a) not everyone used it that way, and b) it's still just yellow rocks, and not "real money" (which doesn't exist). Its value ultimately comes from the same place any other money does: people are willing to accept it in exchange for things
Doesn't corrode, easy to melt, ubiquitously known as a medium of value

Thank you for the extremely well written response, Anon.

>real money which doesn't exist
It does exist, just in our socially constructed minds

It is:
1. Portable
2. Easily divisible
3. Non perishable (even silver rusts)
4. Beautiful
5. Has high value density (thanks to the previous 4)
it has a great ease of manipulation, it doesn't rust or tarnish, its luster while being shiny has a pleasing hue, and not abounding in any great number, as a commodity it possesses initial value for its properties as decorative wear, coupling with its scarcity it becomes more valuable
