a pretty quick rundown

the take home is that it was 17,000 Italians vs. 120,000 Ethiopians with Russian weapons.

What gets lost in talking about the war was that the Italians didn't have the goal of annexing Ethiopia when they started, as they only fielded 20,000 men for the war. The goal was to expand the border of Italian Eritrea and consolidate territory there.

Of course Italy came back for round 2 with 300,000 men and annexed it.

I love this art. The Italian commander on his own behind a protected hill, with only distance units in his ranks faces the Muslims, with their highly decorated leaders in the front with sabers, and the other leaders behind the lines, but in the open.
