What kind of societal conditions tend to spawn revolutions?
>>
Zizek says it's a period of better living standards and hope preceded by a long period of poverty and despair. So shitty conditions don't really trigger revolutions but rather a fast and quick improvement to shitty conditions do. A kind of "give them an inch and they take a mile" sort of situation.

Lack of food is by far the biggest encouragement. Most people during the French revolution, outside Paris, really didn't give a shit about the monarchy, they just wanted food. It's also noteworthy that Lenin's rallying cry considered supplying people with food to be a priority as high as pulling out of world war one. The simple truth is that, except in countries that are built on political liberties rather than a specific culture like the US, most people care more about their life conditions rather than political freedoms, and food is the most basic need.

If you want a Revolution to happen, starve the people.

I think everybody needs to feel like they are being cucked. If you back people into a corner eventually they fight back.

Absolutely this. This is 100% correct.

Good point. Economic conditions are the biggest driver. As long as people have their basic needs met they don't care if their civil liberties are violated. Hell in the U.S. the fourth amendment has basically been erased but people are content because they can afford to live so they don't care.

I read a book on this very subject back in the late 80s. Basically it's:
1. strongest influence is a rapidly declining standard of living for the middle class.
2. increasing perception of state corruption
3. The level of disenfranchisement.
4. There's usually some trigger event that starts it.

Poverty itself is not enough. There's plenty of historical examples of highly impoverished nations with widespread starvation, yet having a stable government with no uprisings.
A decline in the standard of living is also not enough. The RATE of decline is what determines the chance for an uprising.
It's the PERCEPTION of state corruption - not the actual level of corruption that matters. When everyone thinks the govt. or a leader is corrupt, they rise up - even if they can't prove anything.

But I can remember no revolution occuring during an actual starvation, the Irish famine, the Bengal famine, the Holodomor and the Chinese Great Famine, none generated revolutions. More recently, the Cuban and North Korean famines of the 1990s didn't resulted in revolutions against communist regimes.

very true. in general, you can find a lack of some basic commodity behind a lot of revolutions and social upheavals
>>
>>2839031
Poorness and backwardness
The reason why every communist/socialist revolution that ever happen happened in shit countries
>>

Well, in a few of your examples a revolution at all was pretty much impossible given the huge disparity between the civilian population and armed forces. Revolutions can only happen if the revolutionaries can convert, or destroy, the army. Before firearms, launching a revolution would be incredibly hard because when melee combat is the modus operandi of fighting, experience counts for much more, and an army of peasants can't hope to defeat a professional force, hence why most revolutions at this time were really just Coup Detats by the army.

However, you are correct in that there are many examples of widespread famines not resulting in a revolution. This is why I said a lack of food is the biggest factor, not the only, or a surefire means of, revolution.

Wtf I'm voting Trump now. Let's get this thing started.

Most of those places were communist at the time and twisted information. I think Mao said they exceeded his ridiculously high goals which they didn't due to this having been china's first attempt at mass agriculture.

I'm not too familiar with the irish famine but wasn't that mostly due to a blight? In that case there's little reason to blame your regime for lack of potatoes.
