I want to start a church, not necessarily a religion, where psychedelics are sacrament and the psychedelic experience allows one to commune with God/The Universe. I define myself as a Christian, and for a long time I've been interested in the psychedelic experience, religious iconography depicting mushrooms surrounding Jesus, the use of psychedelics and hallucinogens in various world cultures for Shamanic and initiation rituals, and the science behind it all. Though I was raised in a Christian household, I always felt a disconnect from God while I was a child and young adult. A lot of this was due to circumstances beyond my control, but still I would see people weeping at church, seeming to live a life of joy and fulfillment while I felt hollow. I was baptized in my infancy, then again in my teens when my parents joined a Pentecostal church. And I didn't feel reborn or renewed after I came out of the water, like what happened to the others who were baptized before me. But now, after a decade of exploration, research, and experience, I can say that the true rebirth comes with the psychedelic experience. You exit the experience feeling like a different person. You see the world with new eyes. You are reborn.

I want others to share this experience. I'm ashamed of the current state of Christianity in America. I'm ashamed that they continue to reject science. That they see things in black and white, us vs them, red vs blue, our local sports team vs the neighboring state's sports team, etc. But I can't truly fault them. They're the result of indoctrination and tradition. It's the people doing the indoctrinating who will have to answer for their actions. That snowglobe needs to be shaken up and out of its current state of stagnation, and psychedelics are the hand that will do the shaking.

I know there have been attempts at Psychedelic Churches in the past, and I need to study them and their attempts so that I can avoid making the same mistakes.
A failure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-American_Church
A success(?): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_the_True_Inner_Light
The Neo-American Church did not take itself seriously when it needed to. It wasn't a surprise that they failed, and made the entire movement seem like a joke. But the Temple of the True Inner Light seems to have been a success. I've read reports that it still exists, that it still operates without government interference. And then there are various Ayahuasca churches/groups in the United States, most of which seem to be scams charging $1500 for a session. There are various Native American groups offering Peyote rituals, but they operate outside of the law due to their status.

I think that dealing with the government will be the easy part. Getting recognized as a legitimate church shouldn't be too difficult of a hurdle as long as I approach it with caution. I would actually appreciate the government monitoring me and my church - it would ensure my safety. My main concern is ensuring safe psychedelic experiences with individuals. I would need a lawyer, and a nurse, psychiatrist, or medic on site at all times. I would need a secure location so that my facility doesn't get robbed by greasy kids looking for free drugs. I still have months or years of planning to be prepared for this, but I wanted to create this thread to start a conversation on the subject, to get people's opinions and concerns, and to put my ideas to text so that I can structure my thoughts and give myself a foundation to build upon. I feel initiated in the psychedelic world and Religion as a whole, but I still have much to learn, and I hope that I never stop learning. But at some point I'll have to jump out of the nest and give it an attempt.

Ideally I would like a facility where I could grow and process the psychedelics in a safe and sterile environment. I would be synthesizing LSD, and DMT, growing cannabis, mushrooms, peyote, truffles, etc, and brewing ayahuasca, and storing everything in a secure location until they are to be ingested. This would obviously cause problems with the government. Perhaps they would want a DEA agent on site at all times to ensure that nothing is taken out of the facility to be sold in the black market. I wouldn't object to a permanent government presence at that facility. And in the scenario in which the government will not budge then I could perhaps relocate to Portugal where every substance is legal. I would also want sensory deprivation tanks on site, for those who are too scared to commit to psychedelics. The tanks would exist for them to dip their toes into the psychedelic world before they decide to take the full plunge.

As for the church itself, I would want an aesthetically pleasing structure that would be visually pleasant to the psychedelic experience, like some of the mosques with their sacred geometry. I would want a library filled with various religious, psychedelic, scientific, and philosophical texts, and hopefully a licensed digital version of them all so that people could take the texts with them on their smartphone or tablet. I would want a circular auditorium for sermons, and for philosophical discussions during off-hours. I would want the church to be surrounded by rolling hills, a wooded lot, a stream, a lake, etc, so that people have a safe and beautiful place to be enveloped by nature during their psychedelic experience.

I'm concerned about being sued. I can see how this would be a prime target for someone looking to make a quick million. And I can see how this would be a prime target for a person to not take the experience seriously and instead score some free trip. I would have to thoroughly screen people, vet them with caution, and develop an initiation process so that the genuinely curious people are prepared for the experience. I might need housing so people seeking pilgrimage from across the world can stay for the initiation process. Either housing, or a shuttle to a nearby hotel.

The entire thing is intimidating and daunting, but I know it'll be worth whatever hardships that I'll face once I help the first individual.

It was called the 1960s and it failed because psychedelics are a bottomless rabbit hole that goes no where.

Also a "psychedelic church" makes no sense.
The structure of revealed religion is hierarchical. The revelation is in the hands of a chosen prophet who shares it with the people. They rely on him for guidance and interpretation.
Psychedelics on the other hand are radically democratic. Every person becomes their own guide and their own interpreter.

You have a very narrow view, but I don't fault you for that.

Most organized religions tell you that you need the church and the pastor to act as intermediaries between the individual and God, and that's bullshit. An individual can have their own direct connection with God, and the psychedelic experience helps facilitate that. There's that story of the man who spent 30 years learning how to walk on the surface of the water to cross a river and he told this to the Buddha, and the Buddha said "But the ferry is only a nickel". A person could enter a monastery and spend decades to achieve enlightenment, but they can reach that enlightenment in one evening, or in as little as 20 minutes.

If an individual needs only one psychedelic experience to have a religious experience then I would be glad to facilitate that. But if they want to continue exploring their mind then they should have the right to do so. The experience itself would be one facet of the church, and then discussing the experience with peers would be another.

It goes somewhere but that road is closed, there is the whole stoned ape theory. Most drug law has Christian roots and is just vestigial Pagan hate probably.

You're apparently too stupid or your brain is too fried to understand what I'm saying.

The point is that individuals don't need your church to have religious experiences via psychedelics. Your church is entirely superfluous.

You summarized my objection in your own fucking post while thinking you were refuting it. Absolute moron.

...all train compartments smell
vaguely of shit. It gets so you
don't mind it. That's the worst
thing that I can confess. You know
how long it took me to get there?
A long time. When you die you're
going to regret the things you
don't do. You think you're queer...?
I'm going to tell you something:
we're all queer. You think that
you're a thief? So what? You get
befuddled by a middle-class
morality...? Get shut of it. Shut
it out. You cheated on your
wife...? You did it, live with it.
(pause)
You fuck little girls, so be it.
There's an absolute morality? May
be. And then what? If you think
there is, then be that thing. Bad
people go to hell? I don't think
so. If you think that, act that
way. A hell exists on earth? Yes.
I won't live in it. That's me.
You ever take a dump made you feel
you'd just slept for twelve hours...?
