A Protestant but not a Catholic miracle

>Decrease in unemployment
The Nazis barred Jews from the civil service in April of 1933 and subsequently put many out of work in teaching and medicine as well as through boycott and public discrimination. Similarly women were encouraged to leave their positions, or deliberately removed as part of Gleichshaltung. Neither group were recorded on official unemployment registers (many others were also unregistered but this problem had occurred persistently since the early 1920s).

The Nazis promoted work by establishing the DAF under Robert Ley and stretching similar employment schemes to 19-25 year olds. Also the reintroduction of conscription, mass rearmament and the production or ersatz materials for the oncoming war effort led to an increase in work for industrial workers.

Work was also incentivized by schemes such as the KDF, that promised workers holidays or additional payments for automobiles, as well as mass propaganda that promoted an ideal of 'blut und boden.'

By 1939, unemployment was at a mere 300,000 compared to 6 million in 1933 following the wall street crash.

The New Deal was itself partially a rip off of Mussolini’s economic experiments with corporatism

He propped up the entire economy by turning it into a military/industrial complex and it created countless jobs, which is all fine and dandy if you're at constant war, but if you're not, eventually tanks are gonna be worthless and your economy is gonna collapse. Germany would've been bankrupt by 1950(probably a lot sooner).
Of course being at constant war is only useful if you win.
I don't think I would hold up Nazi economic policy as anything other than an example of irresponsible government which almost brought Germany to its knees by 1938. Hjalmar Schacht, who predated the Nazis, was ultimately removed from office for resisting Nazi economic policy insanity. The annexations of Austria and Czechoslovakia were necessary to shore up the faltering Nazi economy.

>Schacht's 'New Plan'
Due to state investment in reforestation, land reclamation, motorisation, industrialisation and public building, as well as the subsidisation of German farmers and the allocation of grants for German builders and producers, public expenditure increased by 70% between 1933 to 36. However, this did contribute to an immense reduction in unemployment (still fairly high at 1.6 million in 1936) and a renewal of national integrity and independence. It thus allowed for more concentration upon rearmament and propaganda.

Public spending was also disguised by the use of 'Mefo bills' that were issued by the Reichsbank (of which Schacht was the president until 1937) that were guaranteed payments for goods for up to 5 years, at an interest rate of 4% per annum.

>Trade
Germany was running at a trade deficit in 1934 due to its reliance upon foreign goods. This spurred the attempts at Autarky and led to the imposition of tarrifs upon foreign goods as well as trade treaties with South-Eastern European nations, allowing for cheaper, barter-based exchanges that allowed Germany to exert an influence over the Balkans prior to any armed combat.

The Gold standard that had been introduced under Streseman due to hyperinflation was dropped due to Germany's relatively low levels of gold reserves and its need to cheaply buy foreign goods. However, this was under the condition that Reichsmarks could only be spent on German goods, resulting in it having 237 different values depending upon nation and circumstance.

>Primary benefits of the 'New Plan'
The New Plan helped to centralise and nationalise German finance, placing the state in greater control of national capital.

Unemployment had fallen to 1.6 million by 1936

Industrial production had increased by 60% by 1936.

In the same period, GNP had increased by 40%.

>The '4 Year Plan'
Eventually due to the dismay that arose from the debate over 'guns and butter' - whether Germany should concentrate upon rearmament or the production of consumer goods - a new economic policy was introduced under the supervision of the fairly economically inept Goring.

This plan aimed, and in many cases achieved to; regulate imports and exports to prioritise strategic sectors, control the labour force, increase the production of raw or Ersatz materials and to increase agricultural production to prevent a reliance upon foreign food stuffs.

Raw material production saw an increase in steel production from 19 million tonnes in 1936 to 22 million tonnes in 1938, and an increase in oil production from 1,800,000 tonnes in 1936 to 2,300,000 tonnes in 1922. Production of arms and explosives also increased drastically.

However, much of the new labour produced was in unskilled, manual jobs and there was a staunch lack of a highly skilled or educated workforce that had once contributed to Germany's strong pre-first world war economy.

>The effects of WW2 on the German economy
The proportion of GNP spent on the war effort increased to drastic levels. By 1941, 60% of GNP went directly to military expenditure.

55% of the workforce in 1941 was directly involved in war-related projects, and this increased to 61% by 1944.

Albert Speers 'economic rationalisation' led to a 97% increase in arms production, a 25% increase in tank production and a 59% increase in total arms production. Despite this, Germany was still not as well armed as Britain, the USA or the USSR in many respects, as they had intended for production to increase gradually before declaring war in 1942/43 rather than in 1939.

It was necessary to employ women in arms factories, undermining Nazi ideology to a certain extent, to make effective use of concentration camp prisoners as workers and to prevent skilled workers from being conscripted and thus losing valuable members of the workforce.

Understandably, due to the economy being centred around 'Total War', in 1945 there was an immense economic collapse following Germany's defeat.

It's also worth noting that the reclamation of valuable land lost in the treaty of Versailles, such as the Saar coalfields and the Ruhr provided Germany with a much needed source of raw materials, however these were naturally lost in their defeat.
