The Roman senate was sick of the constant civil war and wanted to keep Augustus around because he kept the legions in check and his financial power was unrivaled. Augustus played the long game and slowly acquired more powers while relinquishing irrelevant ones until by the time any senators got ballsy enough to cook up a conspiracy (Caepio for instance) it was far too late. Plus Augustus was quite often wracked by health issues so some of them probably thought he'd croak sooner instead of reigning for four decades.

Augustus was both more tactful than Caesar and far more brutal.

Caesar had a bad habit of forgiving his enemies and treating his political life as if it were the military. That everybody would see he was right, follow orders, and move along.

Augustus on the other hand made the Senate give him power and pretended like it was with begrudging responsibility that he would accept it for the good of the people. Plus, y'know anybody that didn't play along was found taking a dirt nap or diving with cement shoes.

Caesar was a brilliant commander. Augustus was a brilliant politician and he had Agrippa to take care of the battles for him.
