The Judeo-Christian outlook on the universe absolutely informed and legitimized it. Most early scientists, Sir Francis Bacon included, were Christian. That's not to say that there weren't tendencies toward this beforehand in Greece, but the whole "evil matter" and petty gods mindsets held it largely back.

Christianity also held back medicinal knowledge pagans had by accusing it of being witchcraft. It's not surprising that by the time the Spaniards came to Mexico they found the Aztecs physicians superior to Spains who had maintained that knowledge.
