Building my playlist, post the best history metal you know.
Pic related: god-tier concept album about the Roman Empire
inb4 Sabaton

I already added their discography.
Also I did post to /mu/, no response.
It's not really history but symphony X has a really good song based on the Odyssey by Homer
>he listens to metal
Meme setting and a little cheesy, but tip-top metal nonetheless.

I should note that the album's concept is more about the journey to Constantinople along the Russian rivers and portages.
Pic related has more stuff about the actual Guard (as well as a song about Hardrada which got me to look up his really cool pre-1066 history), but it's a looser concept and imo not quite as good as Varangian Way.
There's some Maiden songs with historical themes.
From the new album, Empire of the Clouds, 18 minutes about the British airship R101 and it's maiden (and only) voyage. Lots of instrumental, not just the usual, you have Dickinson himself on the piano, horns, it's pretty good imho, but not an "usual" Maiden song.
Dickinson is an absolute madman though.

This is one of my favourite albums ever.
Also, it's not that meme-y.
Tyr is /his/ related right?
Not sure if any of the songs are actually historically accurate but I find the first 4 albums to be gud.

Shit, wrong image
>this hasn't been posted yet
>>277820
Honestly i don't raelly think they are good. The songs they wrote themselves either have terrible melodies and composition, or are cheesy power metal (nothing inherently bad with that, just saying its not very deep). Their renditions of old folk songs are pretty good though.

>Reminds me of 'The Glorious Burden' by Iced Earth. I'll check out more of it.

Isn't 'Blood of Heroes' about WWII soldiers?
>>277828
This would be a 10/10 if it was an EP with just the Gettysburg trilogy. The rest of the album is pretty shit except Waterloo.
Well so far everything posted was added to the playlist, I might as well show you stuff that hasn't been mentioned:

Alestorm sings about Pirates who existed in History, so they count.
Corvus Corax plays Medieval folk that's unadulterated badassery

Amon Amarth sing about Vikings. That is all.

Ade are like Ex Deo in that they sing about Romans, but they also feature Nile's god-drummer George Kollias on Drums.
Virgin Steele sings about History, general History.
Aztec death metal. Batshit insane.
Melechesh sings about the Bronze age civilizations such as Sumeria and Assyria
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8K0mbG5UW4
Samurai metal (not weeb metal)
Civil War is like Virgin Steele in that it focuses on general History.

My god I never realised how autismo all that sounded until I actually posted it
>>277932
Metal autismo is best autismo.
>>277876
Definitely not i don't know where you got that from. It's about old norse warrior traditions, as you might expect from most of the songs from Tyr. Having icelandic heritage, the vocalist sings about his heritage being bought with the blood of heroes (his ancestors who fought their enemies, sometimes in lands far away).
>>277996
sorry there i meant färöish heritage, not icelandic.
This is the best /his/-metal album I have in my collection.

Eluveitie, are they not good enough?
Helvetios is their best album, I think
Also, Best thread 10/10, what I was looking for all day
And whole board is really awesome, Jackie 4chan deserves his title.

It's indeed a little cheesy, but not meme at all desu. he whole viking shit gets more memey in the other albums, at least there's a narrative in Varangian Way.
I kinda like the acoustic version of Holmgard better than the normal one

Apparently /his/ likes mongols. Have a couple of nice mongol bands. Maybe more culture/ethnic than history metal, but well, it's about warriors, khans and shit.
