Pretty much the same as the rest of history. Goat/sheep herders mainly split up into tribes, robbing a caravan every now and then. Tribes would war and local government was unstable to say the least so when Muhammad offered a solution that was peaceful and agreeable to the masses, it was able to be implemented with relative ease cause they were tired of the inconsistent rule and tribal oppression. All in all, not shit. Just taking the sheep around the block and back.
